But doesn't this response by Oprah sound EXACTLY like what LGAT grads are told by their "coaches?" I know grads who've formed independent chat groups online have been told the same thing -- just come to us with your problems, don't talk amonst yourselves or online. It's just a way of hushing people up.

Ah, well, at least she mentioned the "c" word in this column. It might give her readers something to think about. They probably had no idea Landmark would show up on a cult website. Hope she turned off that Google alert. Glam

Oh, and there's his post from 08-29-2005, more than a year ago... QuoteI think if you familiarize with the philosophy and psychology behind the forum, then you'll probably escape unscathed .. Who knows, you might even make up with an estranged relative or come out of your shell or benefit in some other way .. My feeling is that if I can sit in a room for 15 hours for 3 straight days,

Well, I've already pretty much expressed that I think Trooper is a troll. He's barely posted here, but somehow last year went from thinking his Landmark girlfriend was "drinking the kool-aid" and supposedly attending a meeting with her that made him feel uncomfortable to, very quickly, pointing out all the great things Landmark did for her....then almost nothing for a year

The posts seem to be missing quite a lot of detail. And what are the chances the Landmark folks are reading these posts and haven't called anyone out for exposing their "copyrighted" material online? Starting to smell fishy... Isn't it odd that this person only covers the stuff everyone already knows about....and seems to be having an OK time at the Forum, while "

Hmmmm. I went back and re-read the article. And it still sounds like a long ad/PR piece for Landmark. "It's a three-day seminar that teaches you through direct, personal discovery how to create breakthroughs in your life." Sounds like an endorsement. "Part of the forum is to write a letter to someone with whom you have been inauthentic. The other part is to inv

QuoteAs I come to the end of this letter, I'm scared that you won't like me when I take my column to the next level. I'm scared, too, that you will expect me to be amazing - more amazing than I can possibly be - because I have leveled with you and because I am a graduate of the Landmark Forum. Why would readers expect someone to be "amazing" (more amazing than one can p

Quoteturambar I still go up to my old summer music camp occasionally to wash dishes, for the same reason. I think I've scrubbed toilets up there too. The music camp is a for-profit organization, too, but it wouldn't run without a large cadre of people who are grateful for what they got out of it. The mean old woman who runs the camp was pretty nasty to me while I was growing up, bu

Quotecritical_thinker Sometimes a message that is for our own good is said in terms we don't want to hear. Wouldn't you rather have had your father and mother confront you as a child, rather than let you become a convicted, felonious tortfeasor? Is that who you blame for the fact that you got involved in a cult? Your mother and father? Because they didn't confront you as a chi

Quoteturambar With Landmark, you're basically paying some people to scour literature for good ideas, and then put together a presentation for you. I did the same thing in college. Most people say that college helped them, a few say that college was harmful, but I've never heard anyone say that college was a conspiracy. Why then do some people here say that Landmark must be? Are th

From the official website: Episode 101: “CULT CLASSIC” After their car is rear-ended by 1970s icon Sally Kellerman (MASH, Back To School), Jackie and Tara are drawn into the world of “The Platform”, a so-called self-help group spearheaded by a charismatic ex-agent. Tara quickly embraces the “step up” way of life, leaving Jackie, convinced it’s a cult – but if Jackie is going to save her best

It's also spawned a very quick little back-and-forth on the Atlanta Films board. As usual, when est or Landmark are mentioned on a non-cult-related forum, someone brings up the "cult" word...jeez, you just can't get in a good, unadulterated plug for any of Werner's stuff these days.

From his consistent misspellings and obvious use of language patterns/same old lame defenses/ad hominems, I'd make an educated guess that it's our old friend Tex/Conway/Leibnitz/PaulKeith/ConcernedSister/LoveBunny/Etc. again. Guess he's bored over at AFL, since so many of us ignore him now. Can't get the rise out of us he once did. Glam

Perhaps we should mention that many of these remarkable moments are setups, orchestrated to get people emotionally involved. QuoteAlex_Rush Did you see that Landmark revenue is up 50% in the last two years from $50 to $75 million? Complete elimination? Reform? Equally improbable? As someone else pointed out, it's impossible to know whether any claims Landmark makes are true, because they're so secretive about their finances. But assuming their revenue really is up 50% in the last two years, you do realiz

In fact, groups like these purposely target intelligent people. One way they play on your emotions is to have you believe you're privy to "insight" the "common man" will simply never understand. As others have advised, I would be concerned but not panicked. Read as much as you can, and understand the process of thought control. The "meeting" your friend atten
