I'd just like to add that all the rules they impose on attendees are just another form of control. If one wants to lead a disciplined life, then that dicipline has to be imposed from within. Forcing it on someone from the outside only generates resistance and bitterness within. Of course they'll be telling you to suppress all that too. Serenity now, insanity later.

They've got to be kidding right? Surely they can't sue someone for expressing their opinion on the Internet. In fact, the website doesn't even need to express an opinion to make Scientology and Tom look stupid. They're doing a fine job of that all on their own. Whenever someone tries to sue for defamation of character, it's only evidence that they have something to hid

A Landmark person would argue that this is actually a prime example of personal truth over absolute truth. In the advanced course, they talk about the three levels of perception. The first is at the level of 'personal perception' where whatever one experiences is what is true. The second is at the level of social agreement, that different groups form agreements in order to functio

Your site is great, really no further commentary is needed on top of the disturbing footage on your site. I think I'm going to puke after watching Tom say "I love this magnificent woman and I'm not going to hide it" so many times. Clearly overcompensating. keep up the good work! And I love this picture: http://www.scientomogy.info/tomkatiemad.jpg -A loyal visitor

Though it may take many years, I believe some cult leaders have the potential to see the impact of their influence on people. Many cult leaders admit to having doubts at times about the work they do (everyone does) but as cult leaders, they see themselves as people who have cultivated within themselves the ability to spontaniously squash those doubts as soon as they appear. They dangle this speci

Try and dig up the dirt on anyone and you're going to get a few shady stories. Character defimation is NOT proof that what a person is trying to do or what they're involved with is wrong. That's why I like RR, is that it only deals with the hard facts about manipulative organisations and their tactics, rather than resorting to personal attacks on its leaders. And I know he'

Yeah it's true, "world peace by reaching a critical mass of graduates by the year 2020." Heard it straight from a forum leaders own mouth. I believe the original date was 2000, but they didn't make it. I'm sure this time they will though. That's another contradiction in forum logic. "Give up your interpretation that there's something wrong" i

Attending a seminar is not something to take lightly. Even with foreknowledge of their methods and tactics, if you aren't very confident and you tend to relent to peer pressure, you will have a difficult time leaving. A lot of the forum is also very persuasive. It will all sound very reasonable in the beginning, I assure you. I think if you go you may well end up wanting to stay.

Okay forget about enrolment part. :D The point of the exercise was to learn to extend invitations to introductions without applying pressure. What I meant by the enrolment part was that the official line is that you can't enrol someone when you are pressuring them.

I just remembered an exercise at the forum that might interest some people. It's how Landmark officially draws the line between 'pressure' and 'enrolment'. On the second day, and the leader was intructing us about how to approach people about Landmark and get them to come along to our graduation night. She got a male voulenteer up on stage and had him be a potentia

I know what you mean. I sometimes worry that I have some residual programming left over from Landmark. I'm just hoping that time will erase any of that stuff from me, or at least make it dormant. The loaded language wore off pretty quickly for me, I find that it is the circular logic and thought stopping processes that tend to hang around.

QuoteAcuracuraI just read all these complaints about Landmark and in most of them, there's the "I gave them my credit card number..." and it makes me wince. I've taken a lot of Landmark courses, including the Curriculum for Living (the Forum, the Advanced Course and the SELP); I've taken several seminars, the Introduction to Forum Leaders Program (that trains you to lead

The Landmark branch in Melbourne is above Suite 1, which is empty at the moment. If someone had the money, resources and expertise, they could open a cult recovery centre right downstairs :) It's a massive space though, so it'd cost a bit to rent a space like that.

Be honest with your boss. Tell him you've read up on this group, reviewed the evidence and talked to some people who've done/attempted the course, and based on the evidence you've decided you aren't interested. It's better to do this beforehand, trust me. It's VERY easy to get sucked in. I went in expecting to dissect the course, instead, I got involved for a few (ag

I got very good at standing up and talking very confidently to a room full of about 200 people. I shared some deep and personal stuff and it was scary as hell! I grew from that experience and now I could stand up and give a speech to 200 people about almost anything. Before that I wouldn't have said "boo" to a goose. Was it the best way to learn? Maybe not. I think if you went, bec

In regards to your girlfriend getting recruited... There really isn't much that you can do about this situation. People still have free will and your girlfriend will make her own choice no matter what you or the guru does or says. But here's a few pointers. Don't mention Landmark unless the Guru brings it up. As much as she looks like a Landmark loser, you don't want to

LE is Landmark Education. It's one of the most popular cults browsed on this site, probably because it is very active and VERY agressive when it comes to recruiting. My advice is to stay far away.

QuoteMarkusWelch Your requirement for first hand experience is not logical. Why do you think experience is required? (Which is exactly what 'they' think, btw.) Because when you aren't speaking from experience, you're speaking from the superficial, from rumour, gossip and conjecture, fed by fear of that superficial appearance. It is human nature to make assumptions and act by

Let me clarify my previous statement: None of us have actually , so it's impossible to say if it is manipulative and controlling without either participating in the course ourselves, or closely monitoring a participant of the course from a 3rd person perspective. I'd feel more comfortable with the second option, as I am certain that no one is immune to manipulation of the Landmark

Religion starts with the intent to unite groups of people, but simply ends up dividing them. But it's not the fault of the religion itself. Some people will always look at Christianity and just take the basic message "love god, love neighbor" and live their lives with acceptance and grace. Others will take it to a dark place, endlessly trying to reach this ideal Christian perfectio

Yeah you're right. None of us have actually been, so it's impossible to say if it is manipulative and controlling. However, its obvious links to LE make it a 9 on the creep-o-meter for me. I'm staying away. And should landmark spawn any more children, I'll be staying away from them too.

I got out of LE. I'll lend you my answers: Quote Why did you leave? What influenced you etc.? It's hard to say, so many things. I think in the end it came to a buildup. During my time there was asked to repress a lot of my negative emotions about the cult. It was bizzare how it happened. I was on this high of being totally committed to the group, then in the next moment, everything

I don't think that Landmark is one of the worst cults out there. But it can be damaging. Brainwashing is the process of radically altering an individual's paradigm through ultimately deceptive techniques. And it does this by robbing people of their critical judgement. It's a nasty, even risky business. Since getting involved, I have learned to value my own judgement, and do not

Well, having never having attended one of their cuddle seminars, I honestly can't say that they actually use Landmark techniques. However just from looking at the 'loaded language' used on their website, I'd say it's a pretty good indicator that (at least in part) their teaching methods are plagiarised. I've picked out a few quotes: Quote * lead worksho
