well, I guess it depends upon how you define a cult? Is it causing damage? Are you asked/tasked to donate cash or goods? Is it harmful? And so on. On the face of it EFT doesn't appear to trip the warning bells of cults as appear here, however ... ... it's my view that the approach, similar to that in 'the secret', is that it panders to a persons needs to 'fix&

I'd also say that if you simply spend some time back-reading the posts you will find all you need. Then simply use the search command to pick up additional posts on identified names. As has been said previously, there's a lot about ... rgds bb01234 UK

just in passing, it always amazes me that I have clients who say 'I can't be hypnotised', which they can, and then go on to tell me that they've seen or heard something 'on the television' and therefore it must be true. For the US read: Oprah, Ellen, etc. We are less wacky but we do have a few. People are pre-disposed to believe large volume information sour

Haven't posted for a while but was concerned when I read about 'the secret' here. I can confirm there are 'strong' reasons to see links between this and bob proctor & jack canfield. Actually on one webpage the top strapline reads bob proctor from the movie the secret presents ... I guess that's because there's a new wave of people out there that

Marvel23, I'd suggest the big test between a religion and a cult is choice. Can you choose to join and learn, but later choose to stop and leave. Most religions and cults welcome new entrants, so part one's ok. But when you consider leaving, then the trouble starts. Oh, and whilst in it, the intensity of change is a good test also. Many religions have been around for quit

I'd possibly not have gone as far as you as describing the protection element neo-nannyism but I do feel that since anything that is introduced to the education real will need to be field tested first at some stage somewhere the public, naive or informed need to test it and that would mean being tested on. I think some ways to calibrate the efficacy of a 'new way' is how open th

just another point to add ... the issue of appproval by celebrity is so powerful that I think it goes way over most people's critical faculties and this is why all cults, make it known how many such people are endorsing them. The clear double-bind here is that a celebrity, by definition is living in the limelight and as such will adhere to the 'any publicity is good publicity mode

ajinajan thanks for the posts. I think one problem endemic to all political groups (and religious groups) is that in the long-term they both need an influx of younger and active canvassing-evangelical members in order to survive. Here we have the Labour & Conservative parties both with a semi fixed percentage of 'old guard' support and both trying to secure new believers f

thanks for the reply, I would have guessed something like what you say. I only asked because I recollect reading on a page on this site that a figure of, say 125,000 was quoted for membership of scientology in the UK. Probably understated and out of date 125k out of our pop. of about 6.6 m sounds is 1.89% which sounds low, until you then realise that that's nearly 2 in 100 people and t

I've just placed a quote on here. Reading through the document it refers to a site . Whilst it is no doubt a 'decent' site, some of the downloads and articles on it read as how-tos for setting up LGAT's! Download, read, understand, prepare. The truth is out there! Regards Brian

For those out of the UK, Alpha group are a group that affiliate themselves with various churches ( I believe ) and offer to local people in those areas a chance to 'experience for themselves' the word of God. No pressure of course, you understand, just a sequence of classes where you can develop your own beliefs about that which is presented. Funnily enough (surprise, surprise) th

... and to add something else, if you check out the links page you will find a ton of scientology sites. I guess the snag with this whole 'thing' is that it's easy to divide and conquer so no one group appears large. I'd also guess that any/all of the websites listed that are not specifically scientology owned may well be related to people that are followers. Check th

Europe-girl, my knowledge is only just growing but from an outsiders perspective I'd say there are two main elements driving this LGAT: 1. Power - as in the guys on top wanting to control people, so as to do, 2. Money - which they will take readily from your purse to help you to overcome your problems. Nearly everybody on the planet has some 'issue', large or small they ar

Jeri442, sorry that what's happened to you has but as someone's said earlier, at least you're out of it now. When someone you know dies, there are recognised steps in the grief process, including blaming yourself, that people will need to move through to let go from the event that occured ( no choose your reality for that one ) So what I'm saying is that it's natura

I've been reading through the many posts and looking at the websites for landmark etc. I'm amazed to see how 'respectable' their business arm looks, although you can do anything with a website in that respect. The scary thing to me is that this covert infiltration means 'they' can be anywhere. I'm in the UK and I wondered whether anyone has any estimates

What I've found here (in the UK) is that when Robert T Kiyosaki is refered to negatively many people say something like ' oh well, EVEN IF he's not all he's cracked up to be I've still applied his ideas so he must be good'. I think most people on this forum would recognise blind obedience there. Rgds Brian

Thanks the post, link and comments. I agree that colleges, universites etc are a good way to pass on knowledge but for many in work they can either be at the wrong time or simply too long an approach. I think that the idea of 'taster' sessions for people to sample an idea first, perhaps first-hand from the originator can be a good idea but with caveats as set out below. I have

Hi there, I've just put a post (awaiting approval) on the LGAT forum and saw this topic and I'd like to add a UK view. It's interesting that whilst in the US anyone can practice (AFAIK) as a hypnotist but therapists are licenced wheras we have the opposite, namely hypnotitic shows have to be pre-licenced by a local council, but a therapist, life coach etc can set up in the same

As a newcomer to your site ( I was referred to you from a site discussing the Antony Robbins companies etc) I wanted to ask an open ended question and would value the comments from all users here.
