Wow - Sounds exactly like Introduction to the Landmark Forum. Good for you for keeping your wits about you and getting out. Those poor kids. Fortunately, people are taking action against these types of prisons, for lack of a better word. Some of the schools are being closed down. Thanks for telling your story here. Hope

We're talking for-profit people and organizations who covertly use NLP techniques, physical stressors, and other manipulations on their unsuspecting paying customers, and who make them sign waivers without providing the true nature of their programs. If you explore the website, you'll find plenty of information on how to discern religion, military, advertising, from cultic individuals

Having been burned, nearly killed, by a physician who seemed to be so wise and educated in science and the different spiritual paths, I no longer elevate anyone to a higher standing, especially as an idol (that I never did anyway). However, I don't distrust anyone either - I let them speak and observe their behaviors. Surviving a con artist really provides valuable lessons in dealing with

Byron Katie Tuesday, September 29, 2009 6:00 PM—10:00 PM | At Newton Wellesley Hospital (Wellesley, MA) (my note - this is either being sponsored by a school called National Inst. for Whole Health or the hospital or both - not sure yet). TIMES Magazine calls Byron Katie "A spiritual innovator for the new millennium." Byron Katie, founder of The Work, has one job: to teach people

Quoteblue skyI'm surprised there have been no more responses to this post. I would really love to hear about people's experiences with Pranic Healing. There are so many people out there making big promises and I'm hoping it's not the case with PH. The threads here discuss manipulative groups, practices and individuals, not really the pros and cons of healing practices, unles

SeanK, Though you might think that religions are culty because of their beliefs, the institutions do not use covert practices to acquire and retain congregants. They put their beliefs out there for anyone to consider. Again, comparing Landmark to religion or to any system of psychotherapy is comparing apples to cars and dogs. Please read up on modern day "cults" and manipulat

Maybe not so much GAT (but I believe that's where she learned how to do what she's doing), but definitely manipulative, deceptive and potentially dangerous for people in a very vulnerable situations. If members were banned, they could not access the Catbox and for a while, no one could read unless they were a registered member. A couple people have contacted the NYC licensing board. Her site is up again and in one thread that she started, about "what happened" she states she had to take the site down while sorting out things and seeking legal counsel. My abusive doctor talked about seeking legal counsel when I was questioning him. I see that as a veiled threat to anyone who questions these clowns.

I think you are absolutely correct about BK. Though her homepage bookshelf lists all the heavy hitters in the psychology, like Albert Ellis, it is her own assessment of BK's work "cognitive therapy in disguise" and the fact that she recommended BK in her private practive, that is behind a lot of her words and actions, though some actions are dumb-founding. A long-term, adored pos

She has "temporarily" closed her forum but is adding to the home page. www. Dr Ir ene. com is the forum, if it comes back up. There were quite a few threads from the recent past regarding Byron Katie, The Secret, and BK was a part of the resource section. The doc praised BK's work and recommended it to her clients, though, to be fair, she also has many "legit" authors

The therapist who owns and operates the verbal abuse board posted real identities and email addresses of some of her long-time posters when they started asking questions of her about her double standards. This is serious, as some of these people are in very abusive relationships, cannot afford therapy, and have been using that board for support. Not only has personal information been posted, bu

You've pretty much summed it up, Corboy. The forum has a bunch of supporters who are circling the wagons around the forum owner. The mass marketing of The Secret, What the Bleep, and the messages expressed on Oprah and Dr. Phil, have appealed to many who are at their most vulnerable, and all the posters on this particular forum are vulnerable, being abused. The supporters are pretty muc

Another poster on the verbal abuse forum is having a very hard time with what is happening. She has articulated the crazy-making discussion going on there. It all smacks of LGAT rackets and how they are used to confuse, and also to insulate the manipulator. This is kind of sad to read. Her words are in italics. I have more thoughts relating to this (that kept me awake yet AGAIN this morni

There is a meltdown happening on a forum that I used to frequent, especially in the immediate aftermath of my Landmarkian doctor. Apparently something political was posted by the owner of this website, a site for people who have been verbally abused. It is against the rules to post anything political becauase the threads usually just deteriorate and everyone ends up pissed off. The PhD owner b

Makeup, That message was a cover-my-ass-in-case-they-take-legal-action message. They really do all go to the same training camp. If you are hesitant about immediately obtaining legal counsel, at least contact your state Attorney General's office and/or Labor Dept. Be careful how far you go with them, however, as it could preclude a legal case if you decided to go that route later on.

I call it "cognitive therapy in disguise" to help you love you and accept what is... Loving What Is: Four questions that can change your life by Byron Katie. This is what the first psychologist I went to said about BK's book, and this is also part of a review on a reading list on her website. Now, she seemed like a perfectly normal, well-educated, PhD, and she specializes in
