An interesting thing about this forum is that its sometimes a couple of years ahead of the media reports. For example, James Arthur Ray was pointed out as being a dangerous scammer a couple of YEARS ago in this forum, when at the time the "media" was licking James Ray's boots as he was in The Secret. Then when 3-5 people end up DEAD, then the media writes some reports. Eve

Tony Robbins does that as a deliberate tactic. Robbins knows that most people actually need 7-8 hrs a night, and some need less, some more, everyone is unique. So he sets up another impossible goal, to encourage people to try to sleep deprive themselves in their daily lives, so they can be a bigshot like him. Of course, Robbins knows most people fail, he sets it up as a goal that is meant to fa

Those guys try to sell the illusion they live in a manic state. They know its impossible, and so they know people will go manic and then crash. Some of these guys are manic-depressives, even by their own admissions in their ficitionalized stories of themselves. Massive weight-gain and loss, businesses up and down, secret boozing, pills, womanizing, cheating on their wives, and whatever else.

QuoteJimmyProfitAs a small aside, staying awake for more than a day or two can also trigger a manic episode in in people who are bipolar. Actually, that is not a small aside, but an important point! Every LGAT Guru, like James Ray, and all the way back to Werner Erhard...they know all about how to induce manic episodes in people. They do that 100% on purpose. That is a fact. And you don'

Just to clarify about the Magick comment, its just some other websites seem to paint James Ray as some type of dark-magician who has some type of mystical power over people. They ascribe some type of mystical significance to what he does. In fact, James Ray is really a 3rd-rate covert persuader, who went berserk due to his insane greed, which seems to stem from his outrageous meglomania. Jam

The above post about James Ray is interesting and needs to be looked into. For example, the drink is probably Kava Kava, which James Ray copied from Tony Robbins. Same with the firewalking, James Ray copied it from Tony Robbins. The snake stuff is also copied from Tony Robbins and NLP, as they used to use rubber snakes and stuff to try and get people over snake phobias. James Ray just took

Here a little more about how the advanced NLP persuasion people think. James Arthur Ray has studied their methods very carefully. Richard Bandler's partner is John La Valle, who is also co-author of the book Persuasion Engineering. The advertising material out there by John La Valle is really disgusting, frankly. He uses a lot of deliberate Confusion and embedded suggestions about "

You can see the text above by James Ray and how it is full with the same type of language patterns being described. The "New Behavior Generator" is a classic NLP pattern. James Ray conceals most of his main sources, so it will take a little work to find the links. For example, he doesn't mention Tony Robbins in his book, but to anyone who knows Robbins stuff, James Ray is obvio

@ buffman, Good point about getting people to "laugh" to replace the feeling of being "manipulated". That is deliberate. Owen Fitzpatrick actually admits to modeling many professional comedians to hone that skill. The advanced persuaders all model/copy the best entertainers and comedians, they use it as part of their charisma mask. Its really beyond dangerous what they are

There are very few advanced NLP trainers like that, can't think of any. What most of them do, is have several levels of communication, and some are more skilled than others. They have a base level, where they communicate with the public in a superficial way. Then those who are a little more interested do more very expensive "NLP trainings" to learn more of the metalevel persua

There is no question James Ray deliberately went into the New Wage area, as that is where the money is these days, it has endless product ties-ins, is connected with people's core beliefs about religion, and is a new age culture where critical thinking is scorned and banned. Hi Buffman... Just one point I want to make, these threads are generally dealing with the serious problems with this stuff, and not the moderate stuff or the basic self-help stuff, as that is covered elsewhere. That being said, all of the most damaging material, represents itself as being harmless and helpful. Even when people die, have psychotic breaks, get pushed into bankruptcy...they c

Actually, have to profoundly disagree about so-called "life coaching". The advice about getting a "coach" is correct, from the clients side. The "standard" practice for "life coaching" is set by coaches trying to make a buck. Never pay in advance, with no refunds. That is absurd. Never sign any kind of contract. Ever. That also applies to career coun

This is a special message for a few of the NLPers and weasels who are running around trying to deflect this advanced persuasion stuff away from NLP, and how James Arthur Ray uses parts of it. Fasinating and 100% accurate comment below about these "worksheets" people fill out at LGAT seminars. Its absolutely 100% factual and true. People fill out these forms, and they go into the database. And not just the psychological deep dark secrets and traumas. Just as important, and MORE important, are the FINANCIAL details you fill out at the "financial" seminars. They

A former associate of James Ray named Mickey Reynolds, says it was the Oprah show that "made" James Ray, which is true. James Ray was a small time player, until Oprah shilled for the guy by putting him on her The Secret Oprah show a few times, without checking him out. It was obvious to any trained person he was a ruthless scam artist. And Oprah literally made him a multimillionair

Again, lots of good points in the post by "buffman". Its certainly an error to project James Rays "intent" as being something positive for people at large. That is his salespitch, he is mainly in it for his own Ego and mansion, Rolex, cars, Ego... Of course, every LGAT Guru is surrounded by brown-nosers trying to get his/her approval, so they tell the Guru what he wants

On that point, the "board breaking" incident with James Ray is instructive. __________________________________ QUOTE: "A May 2005 event at Disney World, where a New Jersey woman shattered her hand after Ray allegedly bullied her into performing a ritualistic board-breaking exercise... swampseer: Your insight and analysis is very valuable and can help a lot of people. Even just having a rough idea of what goes on in these seminars can help people. This is why the LGAT Guru's are so hysterical about analysis of their methods of persuasion. They know that just being AWARE of the techniques, can ruin most of them. ah, interesting. The posts that have been blocked from the SHAMblog were thought to be about Byron Katie. hmm, I agree we should keep the thread on track, which is looking at Byron Katie and her methods and associates. But as far as Steve Salerno and SHAMblog, as I have mentioned before, what has happened here has been miscommunication, going both ways. If anything good can come out of this Byron Katie waking hypnosis nightmare, its that the tools she is abusing were originally created to help people. The methods can be used for people to help themselves, and not just get lured into some weird culty group, and hand over their wedding rings, money, and everything else to some dangerous unlicensed psychotherapeutic crackpot like Byron Katie.
