On the New Age Frauds and Plastic Shamans forum, a correspondant named 'critter' nailed it when discussing Castaneda by saying 'I have met enough 'Castaneda' followers and they all have this preconceived notion of what/how a teacher is supposed to be..' read the rest, here. What the discussants on NAFPS refer to as 'preconcieved notion', other perso

Everyone, the New Age Frauds and Plastic Shamans Site has had its account suspended. This site has been very important in the Death Ray murder lodge saga, and in the fight against all shady white people who steal, corrupt, and market Native peoples' sacred ceremonies. Maybe they just didn't pay their bill this month. Maybe they've decided the fight is over, they've won, and

This board has cost a lot of hucksters, frauds, plastic shamans, and false gods a LOT of money. For every person who's come here and posted "I was on my way to this 9-day School, that Week-end Seminar, this Week-long Retreat and then I came here and I changed my mind" there must be 100 people who read this board, cancelled a registration for something, and didn't post. So

The interview transcripts also provide insight into the task investiga

The same bio is on Huffington Post, where she blogs. There is the typical lack of information regarding her own health (how do we know she had cancer), her training with shamans and healers (so what? - they all claim that), her real education (where did she go to law school, pre-law, what training does she have in human anatomy and physiology, and psychology in order to tease out those pesky supp

The Fallacy of 'Core Shamanism' From the New Age Frauds and Plastic Shamans forum: Much of this originated from the malign influence of Carlos Castaneda. Castaneda did not do sweat lodges. QuoteMy only addition to the ongoing conversation about ALL of these millionaire hucksters is to admonish people to not ignore the very curious reticence of law enforcement and the governments of a number of countries to bring these phonies to the courts, if only for tax evasion. Just how deep do these roots run? What if these death

Gita, for the purpose of clarification, and to amplify upon some of the excellent points you raise, I offer the following. The Bön Community predicted Christopher’s birth, and when he was 4 years old his teacher, Ürgyen Nam C

Theres stuff on wikipedia and the web on "Plastic shamans" or fake 'shaman' types out there. I have not heard of Yaqui Indians building sweat lodges (this alone I would find highly suspect). My gut feeling is that they were trying to cash in with the Carlos Castenada* theme by mentioning "Yaqui". They also sound like some of these new age shaman type of groups

I've no doubt that darkness can be used for meditation and ritual, but:- QuoteveronicanoodleThe Kogi indians, for example, keep their shamans in darkness for 19 years before they come back to the tribe. I doubt this, seriously. For many reasons. In complete darkness? For the entire time? How would they maintain that, for a start? :)

On a forum such as this, which seeks truth and provides advice to others, it is important to correct misinformation (or disinformation) so that the assessments offered here are not just gossip or questionable in their motive. For that reason, maybe I can clear up this thread with some genuine and firsthand experience of Darkness Visible. I have been a student of Ross Heaven's for some

His reaction kind of reminds me of what you see in movies when the exorcist says to the possessed, "I'm going to expel you demon" and the possessed individual goes into a rage. Although the vast majority of cases are now considered psychiatric in nature, there is stall a small number that are "unexplained" and are indeed illnesses of the
