Stockholm Syndrome: [Stock'holm syn"drome] Psychiatry. (an emotional attachment to a captor formed by a hostage as a result of continuous stress, dependence, and a need to cooperate for survival.).

In the Watchtower/Jehovah's Witnesses cult it plays like this:Satan wants you to leave the,"truth".So,he will try every hook and crook to stumble you out.

Stockholm Syndrome sounds like a variation of the passive/aggresive,good cop/bad cop routine doesn't it?

Elizabeth Smart,Why didn't she leave? []

Danny sez:Be a "coy Roy" and "don't look back Jack"

Just go missing, MIA , (missing in action)

Don't let the control freak, church elders know your plans...

Be as elusive and as evasive as they are..

To understand why Elizabeth Smart evaded rescue, I believe it helps to understand something of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) culture in which she grew up. From early childhood, a Mormon girl is taught that some day a man will come along who will tell her, "God wants us to be together." When a man came along and said these magic words to Elizabeth, she responded to 14 years of programming. Her abductor knew this about her, and took advantage of her "preparation."

Elizabeth Smart was abducted at knifepoint and held in a boarded pit as a prisoner for two weeks.

See []

Brian Mitchell her captor was no groom. And the teenager's Mormon upbringing had nothing to do with the situation she was forced into.

In fact, her abductor's prophetic claims would be dismissed by anyone that had a basic knowledge of the Mormon Church.

There can be only one living "prophet" according to Mormonism and that is the president of the church.

Even a 14-year-old like Elizabeth Smart would know that.

Mitchell's control was gained not from Elizabeth Smart's religious training, but rather from forced brainwashing achieved initially during her imprisonment and reinforced through relative isolation and dominance over her environment.

Let's not blame the Mormons and/or insinuate that somehow Elizabeth Smart was responsible for her condition, but rather place the blame where it belongs.

Brian Mitchell obviously was a deeply disturbed and controlling man. He and his accomplice Wanda Barzee were responsible for the teenager's altered mental/emotional state.
