The Body Keeps the Score is not perfect either

Has anyone else noticed that the book ‘The Body Keeps the Score’ by Bessel van der Kolk is often quoted by people promoting their particular healing ‘process’ or ‘coaching services’? This worries me a bit because (a) the book and research is not infallible; (b) Bessel could start to be viewed as a guru and he does make money from being a touring speaker (eg:a ticket to his upcoming workshops in Australia 2023 will cost you $880); (c) the book may be quoted by people to promote retreats and services using iwaska, ketamine and other mind altering substances which also put us in a very vulnerable state for undue influence or assault. Thoughts? Here’s an article I wrote on this topic this week. [open.substack.com]
