A walking tour around the gakkai cult's neighborhood in Shinanomachi [www.youtube.com].

Yummy "official" cult snacks for your energy requirements during the tour (~1:25 min. mark) for only ~$1.50 (USD equiv.) and don't forget the kiddie souvenirs of cuddly mascot cult teddy bears (take your pick of either ones wearing cult color headbands with slogans and holding mini cult flags, or the ones clutching mini juzu chanting beads) for only ~$14 ea..

Please be aware of the dozens of cult big brother cameras watching your every move, starting at the "You Are Here" map ~ 3:25 min. mark. You can also play a fun game and try to count how many cameras you spot watching you all around the cult areas. Notice the display of gakkai colors/flag on various buildings and businesses, denoting them as "pro-gakkai" safe establishments. Admire the ninja style barbed wire around one building at the ~11:25 min. mark. And maybe the frowning cult guard (replete with secret service-esque earpiece) (~12:30 mark) will help you find your way if you get lost. Please don't forget to see the advertisement (behind glass) of the dear leader's book(s), so you don't miss out.

I love the symbolism at the end of the clip as the author promotes his book in front of the cult HQ, with undercover soka cult guards watching them over their shoulders. His book title, "The Creepy Cult!" (temporarily out-of-stock at Amazon Japan). [www.amazon.co.jp]

Enjoy, for the truth is out there, for those so inclined to look and (ironically, as per the gosho) "open" their "eyes." wink!

And speaking of creepy, let me ask how many of you watched that clip and noticed the same guy (overweight, pink shorts, black shoes, black bag over his shoulder, sunglasses, always trying to look away, pretending he is doing something else) in the left corner of the screen at the 2:16 min. mark (start of the clip) and there again in the left corner off in the background at the 13:16 min. mark (toward the end of the 15 min. clip)? If not, go back and check it out. You are under cultie watch.

Welcome to Creepy Cult Land, indeed. Absolutely none of this surprises me, with this cult.

Wow, that's really creepy. I didn't notice that pink shorted individual.....very good eye. In fact, when dealing with the SGI cult, it's about having a discerning eye and studying what the organization does in it's mind control programming.

It's good to see that a book called "creepy cult" sold out. It's gasoline that fuels our hearts to have the confidence to stand up to the SGI juggernaut that spends member's wealth on real estate and spy camera's. Some people may be apologetic and state that "because SGI's mission is so important, many evil forces try to create obstacles". This rhetoric, this perverse reasoning has kept so many people rationalizing their continued presence in the SGI.

This book, "creepy cult", I want to read it. I am guessing that there is no English version and the book itself looked rather thick so even if someone wanted to translate it, perhaps in PDF format as a means to get it around on the internet, it would require someone who can read Japanese and be willing to devote the time to do it.

How cute, candies and a chanting bear.... Get em while their young.

My personal theory is that the soka gakkai got taken over by zaibatsu/yakuza elements after second president Toda lost a lot of members money in that scandal involving a credit union? I can't remember the details, but I am sure that the organization was most likely handed over to an elite outfit.

Strip away the cult fiction and behind the ficticious facade, you most likely have what amounted to a power grab with Ikeda playing a role as am agent provocateur, a usurper representing powerful interests. The Soka Gakkai has built their philosophical framework around their history and I think it would be interesting to find out what really happened during those days after WW2. It's interesting to note that both Makaguchi's and Toda's families have nothing to do with the SGI and when a recent Toda family member was buried, I think it was the wife, the funeral was held at a Nichiren Shoshu temple. Toda's wife disliked Ikeda and spoke out using vicious terms against Ikeda and the SGI.

Levi McLaughlin, a Princeton PhD scholar in religious studies, has written about how the Aum subway sarin gas attack in 1995 affected the Soka Gakkai. He argues that though SGI and Aum were totally different groups, the attacks made the Japanese even more suspicious of SGI. The Japanese public became concerned that these cultish groups were capable of anything. The Aum leader also spoke of assassinating Ikeda, which caused security around him to be ramped up.

[nirc.nanzan-u.ac.jp]

-------------------------Beginning of Quote---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After 1995, security surrounding Ikeda, which had previously been tight, was
raised to truly “presidential” levels. Wherever he goes, Ikeda is protected by a
gauntlet of bodyguards called the Daiichi Keibi (Number One Security),

a unit dedicated to Ikeda selected from the Tokubetsu Keibi; (Special
Security), an elite corps within the Golden Fortress Associa-
tion the professional security organization that oversees defense of key Gakkai
facilities, such as the main headquarters in Shinanomachi, Tokyo.

Today, no one outside of Soka Gakkai’s innermost circles knows for certain where Ikeda
Daisaku and his wife Kaneko; (1935– ) reside, and their movements are
never publicized in advance.

The attempts on Ikeda’s life by Aum raised particular concerns for Ikeda: every room in residences for the Honorary President, even in residences built overseas by Soka Gakkai International that Ikeda has
never visited, is reportedly fitted with an individual hvac (heating, ventilation,
and air conditioning) system and is designed to be hermetically sealed in the
event of a poison gas attack
(interviews with sgi–usa affiliate, autumn 2006)

.
Additionally, after the Aum incident, Soka Gakkai facilities across Japan, large and small, called on elite Young Men’s Division volunteer security forces called the Fortress Protection Association Value Creation Team to continue protecting Gakkai territory (Asahi Shinbun Aera
2000).

I can attest to the fact the security you see in that clip, looks pretty much the same as it was pre-1995, including the shadowy plain clothes gakkai culties on every corner watching your every move to essentially see if you "belong" to the collective (looking to see if you are with a known member or for tell-tale gakkai colors on your wardrobe or person, visitor badges, or "official" lapel pins to ID you). If not, you would be followed and watched extra carefully and you certainly would never gain entry into any of the gakkai facilities. There was always an overall atmosphere of paranoia that permeated the area and non-members always felt creeped out whenever they had to walk through cult town. It's nice gakkai spin though, to point to the Aum attacks as post-hoc justifications.

Hey guys,

Could you let me know how long my posts will continue to be moderated, as I replied to Hitch four posts ago. Basically, I am barred from participating in a timely fashion. If this is a new permanent policy for new users, then i'd like to know as this is definitely a barrier to having any timely dialogue or ability to share.

If there is a feeling that I have posted too much content, I think it might have to do with the fact that I know I have one or two chances a day to share content.

In regards to tsukimoto's post, I know that being secretive is a hallmark of this organization, with special meetings and "information just for you" amongst other things. The atmosphere in the SGI cult always had that air of the knowers of secrets at the top with the ignorant general members below.

Based on this environment, I am not surprised to see such secretive , intimidating tactics in place. It's like the scientologists in Clear Water, Florida.
They take over an area and begin to buy up real estate, creating a haven which over time chases out the native population. My guess is that this is a statement of power and domination. When you as a member or non member come into this haven, you are continually reminded of the awe and power that the Cult wields.

Non members can feel the silent pressure and aggression. I have spoken to american members who went to Tokyo and were treated suspiciously, so I guess that members too get a bit of the treatment. Anyhow, to me this looks deliberate, again to make a big statement.

Soka Gakkai is a gigantic cult powerhouse.

Even as an official member, if you showed up at cult HQ, for whatever the reason and were basically unknown or un-vouched for, you were viewed with a very skeptical eye, utter distrust and kept at arm's length. If you were able to demonstrate, either through words or actions that you were really a genuine member, the guard might be let down just a tad to accommodate you (meaning you could temporarily gain escorted entry to certain facilities). It would also be luck of the draw, depending on who you approached, your appearance, your demeanor, etc.. Hardcore brainwashed ymd were unlikely to be receptive to you, but you stood a better chance with a WD or ywd (women's div. or young women's div.).

Incidentally, for any Ikeda watchers out there - the August 24, 2012 Seikyo Shimbun is sporting Daisaku and Kaneko in what is touted as a recent photo. [www.seikyoonline.jp] They are both sitting down in chairs and looking very, very old. Neither, IMO, looks well.

Another protest group in front of a gakkai cult building, inside a car with loudspeakers (a common protest device used in Japan) [www.youtube.com]. Protesting the cult's media influence (Mainichi Shimbun, a major Japanese newspaper) and Komeito dirty politics, etc..

The "elite" soka-SS protectors (notice the custom eagle emblem patch on the coat of the person who first approaches the car) start photographing the occupants inside the car, to which the protestor, over the loudspeaker states "we are filming you, too" and "it's going on YouTube." To which the "elite" soka-$$ security forces retreat, hide back-n-forth behind a tree and constantly cover their faces so as to not be filmed themselves. They eventually resort to blocking the filming with black umbrellas and having an individual (gakkai member?) who "says" he's a police officer (to which the protestors are skeptical and drive off). It's also interesting to note that the first security guard can be seen calling his "leaders" for direction on what to do; shortly thereafter, more and more black coats slowly show up.

It's all laughable, because the soka protectors ultimately have no powers, other than intimidating stares, bullying and paparazzi-style attacks. Turn it all back onto them and they are at a loss as to what to do. Kind of reminds me of a 3 stooges movie.

Once again, the cult in action in its own homeland.

Because people who join subconsciously feel the objectification, they often try to please others in the organization through showing faith and zealotry as a means to overcome that subtle objectified feeling.

That is important.

When feeling emotionally starved, a little bit of affirmation can seem a feast, and one dwells on the memory of that affirmation during the lean periods that follow, when taken for granted once again.

They say that a classic part of the emotional abuse/romance dynamic is that an abuser will mix in emotional deprivation or battery with adoring attention--and often turn on the romance/affirmation right when the battered partner is on the point of leaving.

Turn on the romance and the battered partner feels the relationship is worth it after all. And then, when ignored or mistreated, dwell on memories of the past 'good times' and put up with yet more objectificatoin.

(Abusers probably learn to read non verbal cues indicating that someone is getting ready to give up on the relationship and leave. Maybe the SG managers also learn how to read people's body language and facial expressions and ID whoever is having doubts and getting ready, unconsciously, to leave? And chooses to love bomb exactly those people to con them into staying around for more hard work and emotional deprivation?)

Cant remember if this was posted.

Here is an article on cult induction. Maybe worth reading in case there are similarities to SG. Lots of information on recruitment.

[webcache.googleusercontent.com]

This is just a small bit from the entire paper. It covers recruitment

Quote

What these methods have in common is that they all intentionally transgress the unspoken barriers which govern nonverbal interaction in our culture. Just as the hypnotist provides confusion, arousal, and expectation in the subject (Haley, 1963), the cult recruiter creates a disorienting and arousing experience which heightens attention, and then deliberately attempts to develop unconscious receptivity. The effects of a typical encounter are described by a former female recruit:

I was standing outside the public library when this guy who was about six feet came over to me. He seemed to be very happy, like he had a lot of answers to things.... He seemed to be in a different place than most people. At the time, he seemed kind of spiritual. He asked me to this dinner they had, and I had to lean against the wall. He seemed to be a very powerful person. (Conway & Siegelman, 1978, p. 30)

The significant element in this description is the obvious intensity in the process of the interaction, although a minimal amount of actual content is shared by the recruiter. By the time this woman and her husband accepted the invitation, they only knew that they were invited to a "group called the New Age Fellowship, just a group of people who come together, and sit around and talk about different things." Nonetheless, they thought the initial encounter had some significance due to its remarkable intensity. Yet, they lacked a conceptual framework to understand how they had come to be influenced the way they did. Upon meeting the cult members, this recruit later said, "My initial reaction to these people was, I don't know what they have but I want it."

In order to begin the process of influencing individuals to change fundamental attitudes, unconscious rapport must be established. This is an axiom of the hypnotherapeutic process, and is present in cult induction as well. The influencer must be sensitive to whatever cues of manner, dress, speech, and behavior indicate about an individual's world view, and must evidence to the subject that he is able to address and include their reality. In cult induction, recruiters have an ideological understanding of the significance of the encounter. Thus, they know that whatever it is, the individuals' "model," doesn't work. Therefore, as a pacing procedure, recruiters often elicit the individuals' life goals, extrapolating the intent behind the aspiration. For instance, in one encounter the author had with a recruiter, she began, "Oh you're a social worker, it must be very important for you to help people." In response to my affirmative reply she continued, "Do you really feel that the ways you have been taught help people in the best or most important ways?" The pattern present in this interaction is comparable to the hypnotic process of pacing and leading. By initially extrapolating the best possible motivation for my work she attempted to create rapport. Once the rapport was established, she could proceed to engage my motivation by appealing to a broader expression of it.

*Most truly thoughtful and idealistic individuals will be aware of the flaws or limitations of their methods, and are likely to be interested in finding ways to improve.

(Which makes this kind of person (one capable of doubt and self reflection) vulnerable in the face of a covert recruiter who pretends to be normal but is actually a secret agent operating on a cult agenda that is systematic, has no room at all for doubt (totalist) and a strategy for every possible human response a subject is likely to make when put in a recruitment situation.Corboy)

A former cult member reported, "If you're into rock music, they have a band; into health food, they have an organic farm . . . They'll say anything to make you stay" (Freed, 1980, p. 70).

A subsequent feature of cult induction is comparable to "cultural rapport" in Erickson's approach (Gordon & Meyers-Anderson, 1981). "Part of everyone's world model is a cultural milieu.... Erickson is sensitive to the importance of the clients' cultural backgrounds and gracefully utilizes his knowledge of cultures and subcultures to help create the rapport necessary for impactful communication" (p. 51).

** Recruiters are often given explicit instructions on whom to approach, and how to conduct the encounter. Utilizing individuals' interests, and extracting the motivations present, recruiters can then expand those aspirations to their more universal expressions.

For example, after engaging me in conversation about the crises in mental health delivery and budget cuts in social services, the recruiter said to me, "Could you imagine a world where everyone was like a social worker, helping everyone else?" Thus she attempted to lead out of the framework in which I operated into abstract realms, the dimensions of which I could not possibly evaluate, and the validity of which I could not argue.

The outcome of a recruitment encounter must include some behavioral response on the part of the recruit.

(Corboy emphasis. Decades of social psychology research has established that doing something, no matter how seemingly trivial ( 'behavioral commitment') greatly increases likelihood that a subject's belief system will change.)

In order for the process to lead further, it must influence the individual to change some plans or behavior.

Usually this simply includes accepting an invitation to a dinner or some unthreatening introductory lecture, course, etc. But the behavioral response must follow the arousal of interest. Somehow, the suggestion must be made that this group or recruiter has something to offer. In order to conceive this, recruits must first have become aware of some personal lack or limitation that could change. Thus, the recruits come to the first meeting as seekers, psychologically primed to respond, whether the sense of lack was native to them or had been induced.

The rest of the paper can be read here:
