CultEducation.com recommended Emotional Blackmail: When the People in Your Life Use Fear, Obligation, and Guilt to Manipulate You Paperback – July 30, 2019
by Susan Forward (Author), Donna Frazier [www.amazon.com]

Has anyone read this book or considered 'emotional blackmail" when in The Walk, TLW? I'm thinking about getting the book. I have read other books by the author.

Are any of these 3 questions something you can related to when you were in the cult?

"If you really loved me..."

"After all I've done for you..."

"How can you be so selfish..."

Can you think of any more statements you heard in the walk that were or were not emotionally black mailing? * to be be fair, what were some loving thing s that made you grow spiritually while in TLWF?)

Where to begin...
    [*] You're just bitter
[*] Don't use your carnal mind
[*] The really dedicated people will be at the work day
    [*] It's your choice, but...

You're a con man
You're a sociopath
You're just greedy and selfish.
You ruin everything you touch.
You don't speak a "living word"
You're a complete disgrace

Wait...that's what I meant to tell them. Disregard.
I promise to pay closer attention to instructions next time :)

I think I mentioned this before, but I hope some people are not reading this forum just for tips on how to start their own religious cult. That would disheartening.

NancyB. I am of the opinion that much of the (rampant) emotional and spiritual blackmail issued from the pulpit as a "Word from God."

I was going to do a project of going thru tape catalogs to point out the words I found particularly forceful in keeping us enslaved and always working harder, doing more, trying harder, etc. etc. etc. Most were about discipleship, the voluntary slave putting the awl thru his own ear, etc.

I decided not to do this project. That is one of the nice things I am doing for myself. But I remember words such as: Is God Enough For You? Will You Drink The Cup? What You Are When No One Is Looking.

And many more. The constant focus on being "Front Line" and pulling the train and all that shit - was debilitating and exhausting and has imprinted on us in ways I hope we can all get free from ASAP. It's not too late to live a blessed life of freedom.

The never ending quest for power and position. It's a sickness.

Always keep 'em busy...
This from Paleface and Reepicheep regarding the delightful Fred & Ethel projects:

The “Fred” and “Ethel” projects were (and are) what the local LW church office is obligated to prepare each year and turn into APCO. It is a full end-of-the-year financial (and tax) report of all the income and expenses of the local church. It often involves a complete detailed inventory of all assets at the local church. Everything is counted and written down in a ledger, all the way down to the number of paper clips laying in a desk drawer. It keeps a lot of people busy for many, many hours. (Similar to ditch-digging at Shiloh)

The Annual Shepherd's Report, "lovingly" known as Fred and Ethel. Another big time waster. The members of the churches had to count paper clips and toilet paper while G & M et. al. made off with the big bucks.
