Me too. It was the greatest moment of my life, to be followed by many more. Freedom is not overrated.

I have gone through many years of ignoring, denying God and seeking other forms of spiritual awareness or toying with atheism and Lilith-ism (extreme feminism) trying to kill my deep emptiness with things that can never fulfill me, drinking, drugs, "relationships". Always distracting myself but I can say honestly, that everything has always come back to Him. I couldn't deny that only God saved me when I was a baby in the hospital and all the evidence, doctors and science said I should die or on the slim chance I lived, I would be brain dead and in a wheel chair for the rest of my life.

Only God protected me When someone crashed their car into mine; Only God was with me when I tried to take my life 3 times, no person was there, no one helped me, but God. He has kept me - So that is my truth. That is how I can say that even though I often feel like I don't fit in with church folk or others because of what I have experienced, I know God is real and He has a plan for my life.

The problem we run into as former cult members is that God was equated with certain people and control instead of the Love of Christ. And people will always let you down, it's inevitable. Just as we have hurt people in our lives, others will hurt us. But Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for us, because He loved us first, not because of what we have done to please Him, but because of who He is. We were not taught to listen to and study the scripture (at least not when I was there) and certainly not to realize that my relationship with God is enough, I don't need "an apostle" to tell me what God is saying. Although sound teaching is helpful fro guidance it should be from only one person or place.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the light. "No one comes to the Father but through me."

No other religion offers love & eternal life or "enlightenment" based in who God is and not on what we do.

To me, that's real.

Cloudwatcher said "Freedom is not overrated."

Although it was many years ago, I never felt as free as when I freed myself from freeing the Apostle.

"How to Cultproof your Kids"

This book was written in 1993. Here is a couple of
excerpts. It is on page 24 under the heading
Aberrant Christian Groups. It speaks of groups
claiming to be Christian but who deviate from
historical Christian doctrines "... This category
includes the Family of Love (Children of
God)......the Church of the Living word ("The
Walk")..."

then on page 32....under Well Known Fringe
Churches...."The Walk" or Church of the Living
Word
"On the surface, this church seems like a typical
charismatic group. It was founded by John Robert
Stevens, however, who taught a version of the
notion that men can become God, that his teaching
constitutes the only true church, and that he and
other ministers of the church can engage in sexual
immorality with some of the female members.

I'm not sure the last sentence was a teaching.

I had reoccurring nightmares of men wearing masks. Chasing me with swords. I read about a technique. Recall the dream throughout the day. But, replace the sword with a pop sickle stick. It worked.

BTW, the nightmares usually happened in a corn field.

While I respect and honor your belief in Jesus as the way, the truth and the light, I hope you will also respect that not everyone feels the same as you do. While I still believe that Jesus is the reason for the season, I also believe that He is not limited to what a single religion has to offer. I also know that He does not judge others on the basis of what they believe. What I have learned through the years is working for me in part because I have tried to keep an open mind and have built on what I've learned. Healing doesn't always have to come from a Christian source in order for it to take place. I can really bear witness to that. To me, that's real. Peace and love to you.
