A hearty amen of agreement to what changedagain said: "BTW, even though we've had an impressive level of participation in this forum, I suspect there are many more people still in the shadows not willing to publicly address the wounds inflicted upon them by these sociopathic 'ministries.' I understand. Whatever your process for healing happens to be--if it works, I support it."

The things that were done to various people after they were kicked out, fired, shunned, etc., even just the stories I am aware of, would curl your hair or send you to the barf bucket. I either didn't know or don't remember the services where Larry Makuakane was talked about. Recently, I have heard varied versions of why they did away with him. Boxes of rotten raw meat among other things were sent to his house. Numerous nasty "mean girl" junior high-level taunts were sent to him. My opinion or understanding at the time was that Larry had a conflict with Marilyn. Based on the treatment shown him, that seems more accurate.

Brent Finney is another ministry they drummed out of the church. I learned recently he was vilified because the reality was JRS had given Brent a power of attorney to handle all of the church business should JRS die. Marilyn told me herself that she tried to get Brent to divorce his wife and he refused and left. I have learned that Brent was accused (by G&M) of being responsible for JRS' death. It is all just a coverup for the truth -- motivated by G&M's drive to possess anything and everyone in the churches.

Again, most of the stories of why respected and loved ministries were no longer around were made up to hide the truth that G&M systematically removed anyone they thought would be a threat to their total control over the churches - so anyone popular (respected and loved) or who knew hidden secrets (about G&M's affairs, money dealings, Rick's sex crimes/abuses) was painted with a negative picture of false information and shunted out the door. The people in the churches were usually left wondering why a ministry had abandoned them when in reality that ministry was in forced exile by G&M.

little red wagon you gave a pretty good description there. I was around in the 50's and 60's - I'm old but no the oldest for sure.

I vividly recall the change in delivery of the presentation then. Because Bro Stev- as we called him back then when he came home only every so often as a guest. I vividly remember one 'message we kids were required to sit in the was about the Exodus. I remember feeling very afraid of being like the rebellious children of Israel. My theory is that this was when then generation threat began in my mind- a lot of changes were made in the home church.

Here is an article that I believe would be helpful to many people on this forum. The title is "Forget About Forgiving Your Narcissist/Psychopath: Here's Why ".

Here's a sneak peek of the subtitles:

You need to move on
You get more drained by the second
It's time for you to come first
You need to stop feeling bad for seeking justice
Toxic people get off scot-free
Forgiving yourself should be the first priority
Know you’re not stupid for getting involved
Not forgetting doesn’t make you a bad person
You need to heal

Good stuff. #5 is especially pertinent:

5. Toxic people get off scot-free

My friend Shannon Thomas (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), an expert in spiritual abuse, explains that when victims release the abuser too soon from accountability, the entire healing process is derailed.

She says, “When the topic of forgiveness arises, many emotions are triggered for survivors of abuse. This is especially true within a religious or spiritual setting. The traditional definition of forgiveness involves telling the abuser he or she is released from the responsibility for the damage they have caused. This action is absolutely not helpful within an abusive environment. Toxic people must hold and address the responsibility for their actions.”

I wonder if the toxic people we knew will ever take responsibility for their actions? Of all the letters I wrote to the Hargraves and their minions I never received a single reply.

Only one in South Gate who gave me such difficulty ever walked back what was done and in tears apologized, but he took flak for it.

Amos - Three cheers for someone who sounds like he or she did it right or at least was honest enough to try.

Reep - Thank you for that link and the quotes. It is so important.

I have some notes I took from Rick Ross' most recent book that has been helping me too. I will share soon.
