The fact that people in the supposedly defunct organization can still be told not to speak about certain matters strongly suggests that the oppressive command structure remains in place. Gary may have technically resigned, but I doubt his reign in the cult is over.
Thanks for your insights, Larry. A valuable post.

Ah yes. Control, more control & then condemnation. What wonderful memories of the Walk! For reasons I now understand much more clearly, thanks to the bravado of you who are posting and the creation of this forum, I can see why it was always more like dogs contending for meat scraps than an actual Godly endeavour. Except, that is, for the true sheep. We all were beaten up in counseling, from the pilpit, collectively on tapes & individually in horrible ways. Then, to hear of this stuff! I, as a Former Navy submariner, have to apologize to each & every victim of this s*** ! First off, for not putting the freedoms of our country ahead of the cult dictates & secondly, for not having enough perception to see it, and lastly, for not, sticking around to confront my shepherd who surrounded himself with yapping-dog yes men. I will so pray about your stories and for your healings. As for names, unless asked, I will give it to the Father in my corner of this forum. You all do what you have to for healing and closure. Bless each & everyone of us. I don't believe in platitudes, so when I say things like this, I truly mean it. Love you all & bless you all.

About that:
Just who in the H*** do they think themselves to be that they can dictate to whom I can or cannot speak to about the TLWF? Is this a country that I need papers on me to move about? I think not!!
And about "designated relationships ", that is an absolute NON-STARTER! This is not communist Russia nor communist China. If I wish to visit with someone I know, it is 100% none of anyone else's business! End of discussion.
Cults, being what they are, believe that this behavior is acceptable. I wish to inform them that it is not. G'day

I prefer to be more direct and state: I believe this organization to be a scheme and a fraud set up for the sole purpose of enriching its founder. The religion aspect was a legal cover and a mental rouse to fool and manipulate. Manipulate.
The love amongst the congregants is real and strong. The perps are whom they are and they cannot ever escape what they have done. The modern era was a planned hand off of the full knowledge of the scheme and how to execute it.

I remember that one of the impediments in my own thinking in letting go of JRS and the words he spoke (note no capitalization on words) was because I could see that coming in to the church and believing in JRS the way I did, had done a lot of good in my life.

Then I began evaluating how that all worked. I also started looking for information on how JRS could knock people over and send blessings and all that hokum-pocum. I found books by a minister in the South that were on topics like "violent intercession" "take it (the kingdom) by force" and others very similar to JRS. Then I talked to people versed in spiritual principles that JRS warned us to stay away from because it was witchcraft. Bullshit. Passing energy between people, sending energy that makes people sway or bob or even fall down, is taught in detail in this publications JRS warned us to stay away from.

If you go back and study the various things JRS said from the pulpit or the "words" he gave people to do things, even like getting divorced, moving across country, etc., you will ALWAYS find a benefit to him from anyone who followed his "word from God." Follow the money includes follow the free labor. This cult was made extremely wealthy off the back of slave labor. Some of the kingdom businesses likewise benefitted from slave labor and eventually made their owners mega-rich. Hopefully those who provided that labor at least have a roof over their head and recovered from the poverty we were forced to live under in service to a false word from God.

ONION:

These are all rude awakenings even to some of us long gone.

This level of exposure to the underpinnings of this movement were simply not accessible to most back then. No matter how glorious the 'word', there was a carefully hidden contradictory backside being walked out.

The con was played and we bought into it.

How did he make us bob and weave and fall down? That I would like to know it is the most curious thing.

I don’t recall where I read this but apparently JRS plagiarized from a lot of other Latter Rain teaching. Nearly all of the First Principles were stolen from someone else. No wonder we were told not to “drink from other fountains”. He didn’t want us discovering how unoriginal his “apostolic word” was.
