Puddington, that video was inspiring, thank you for sharing. I identified with many of the same experiences she had, and her final statement really resonated with me:
"Even the hardest day of freedom is better than the best day in a cult."
GoingRogue, I had the same thought watching those documentaries. It's an uncomfortable truth to realize that many if not most of those same warning signs other cult survivors beg people to watch for were foundational parts of TLWF.
On that note, someone sent me a PM about Gary's properties with a point I had not considered until now. From what I can gather, Gary was a police officer before joining TLWF. Among his other properties, he now owns a home in Hawaii priced around $3.5 Million by sites like Zillow or Trulia. It seems Gary might have had another business called Isaac Systems Inc in the 80s, but it's most likely an uncomfortable truth that Gary accumulated the lion's share of this personal wealth from the pulpit.
This information was gathered from a simple google search of his name, on sites that archive public data like this one: [
publicrecords.directory]
*note, you must scroll down to "Gary Allen Hargrave"
The data could be incomplete or inaccurate in cases, although it is likely the case that his Hawaii property as well as a number in California are properties currently/formerly in his name. Additionally, some properties appear to have been sold between trustees such as Marilyn, Kevin Hargrave, and the Hargrave Family Trust. Why he would sell the same property multiple times between trusts is perplexing to say the least.
Some of those properties are the old Blix street properties, and I'm reminded of a previous poster who mentioned that when Anaheim was shut down, the congregation was denied the chance to buy it from TLWF. Instead, the property was absorbed by one of the TLWF trusts. This being unverified information, it falls under what I would call "smoke" versus "fire" in terms of wrong-doing. That stated, combine this data with some of the rumors circulating these forums and it might qualify as "very smokey" to say the least.
