Tmason...JRS's son in law Richard Helphand was an attorney and he was involved in the mine investment along with JRS, but I don't think either of them were prosecuted. I don't recall every hearing JRS publically apologize for misleading the congregation to invest in the mine, maybe he did behind the scenes, not sure. Tmason your story about your family getting shafted then ending up under Dan intrigues me. Do you remember why your family ended up there in DC?

Yes it's true. I just re-read about it in the mine chapter in Reflections from the Edge. What kills me is the whole mine thing was pursued because of a vision Paul Holder claimed he had in 1950's regarding a mine and JRS had in his possession bars of silver that Martha wanted a piece of during the divorce. Nichols also recounts the grandiose prophesies spoken about the gold and silver the LW would reap.

PS: Tmason, thanks for the pm.

Changed, I was at Bob's memorial at TLW. His son was there, too. I was in complete shock over what Gary said snd in complete disagreement. His son was in complete agreement with Gary! So brainwashed. I asked him later why and he said Gary had explained his father's sins and disobedience to him. SO WRONG!

"BTW, the memory of a particular Valley service in the 90's is still vivid to me. Gary announced the death of Bob McClane, a good friend of mine, and then proceeded to label Bob as a spiritual failure, and chastised those who were close to him for not looking out after his health. Such an expression of the father's heart! (sarcasm)."

Lily I have not read the paper by nichols and this is the first I have heard of it. I found the site and tried to upload the paper but it must be corupted. It has loaded over 13k pages of jiberush and was still counting when I stopped the process. I will keep trying. Thanks and I am very excited to see what this Nichols guy new about what happened at the mine.

Unbelievable--yet not unbelievable.
BTW, it was not surprising that not one "ministry" present challenged Gary's assessment of Bob. I suppose this lack of checks and balances explains why Gary has had his way with the fellowship for 33 years now...leading it nowhere.

I don't know if he actually said "I'm sorry" but I do remember him saying it was a mistake during one of his sermons. I don't remember if I heard that in person or recorded and it may have been said at Coniah.

Horning do you remember Ben Mason. He married my mother and brought us into The Apostolic Company in 72 0r 73. RD was the only guy I knew with a bomb shelter in his yard. I recall him as a real trip. But I was five.

Hey Diamond. (I just figured if your "THE Jewel" you should be a Diamond.
Thanks for the link, I just tried again. Maybe it's the Hancock viewer on my tablet. I only get to page 18 before it loads the same corrupted page over 18k times. Going to try another computer.
Thanks again!
