I am just sickened over and over again as I hear more and more stories of the sexual, emotional, physical, and spiritual abuse perpetrated and then covered up for decades. And, you're right - offenders tend to abuse and abuse and abuse and get away with it, and only a small percentage of those who are abused ever speak up. Worse still, only a small percentage of those who are abused ever can acknowledge that what they experienced WAS abuse!

I think finding scriptures to help is a great idea. I'll keep ruminating on this, but I can't help but think immediately of Psalm 18. The picture of God in all His glory coming down to save His beloved child who is in danger is one that resonates with me when I cry out for help. I don't know if someone has ever done a painting interpreting this scripture, but the mental image I have of it has brought me great comfort at what a mighty God I serve and how absolutely willing and able He is to come to my defense and rescue.
