Pathways Institute

Pathways Institute is yet another LGAT. A family member roped me into the introductory training "Personal Mastery Seminar," and it was scary. Lots of psychobabble and mind control. I managed not to get sucked in, but I'm still in contact with a few people from the training, and most of them signed up for the $2000 "Stand and Deliver" courses. Family member is very involved and was used for free labor at the workshop I went to. It was hard to see.

Does anyone have any experience with this LGAT? I believe they are most active in Northern California and Boston.

I have friends who are involved. I've been to their Personal Mastery Intensive & don't believe they're a cult. They don't identify as an LGAT but maybe they are an LGAT by definition. The word cult is so perjorative. "LGAT" isn't as negative, but there are some negative connotations. I don't see them as negative. I felt free not to go forward. There were no negative consequences. They didn't try to brainwash me. I liked a lot of what they had to offer in the workshop I took. If it's not your cup of tea, then stay away.

I have been involved with Pathways Institute for a few years. I do so because I continue to get learnings and knowledge I wish I got in school.

Chichaca is simply spreading misinformation.

To clarify: It's not "training" as Chichaca states. Pathways is a "modern day mystery school" that teaches values of meditation, Jungian studies as in "what do our dreams tell us" and how symbols and archetypes influence our lives. Also about Shadow: what is it in our unconscious that we project onto others and react to?

If you follow Pathways advanced work, it includes study of world religions. You choose which one to focus on.

There is also a business side to Pathways Institute. Corporations large and small bring portions of this work to their teams and see spectacular results.

To address Chichaca's "free labor" and "hard to see" perspective. I ask, can one ever volunteer to support a body of work outside of traditional schooling and have it not be perceived this way? I wish Chichaca considered attending the Personal Mastery workshop his/her family invited them to. There's an opportunity to gain great insight he/she may never get the chance to experience again. Also, it's true, there's a 3-month course called "Stand and Deliver", but it's HALF the cost that Chichaca states.

I went to the link you provided. I am not fond of "business" courses which blend various cherry-picked psuedo-religious nonsense. This has the feel of a LGAT.

I think Chichaca got away with his wallet and mind intact.

The founder is listed as Carole. She claims to have an MA (I am not sure in what).
From her own bio it lists:"Carole has vast experience importing tools and insights from the worlds of anthropology, philosophy, psychology, the world religions, mythology, and modern neuroscience into her teaching."

What does that even mean? Is she classically trained in any of those? Psychology is a big red flag. Is she a licensed and registered as a psychologist or counseling with the state of California?

You have written:"There is also a business side to Pathways Institute. Corporations large and small bring portions of this work to their teams and see spectacular results."

Do attendees to the workshops need to sign waivers against lawsuits, etc. before attending?

Also, "Stand and Deliver"? Isn't that what highwaymen of old used to shout out prior to robbing people of their money?

Perhaps this is the first LGAT to give the public transparency prior to getting involved.

Yes it is, Sparky, how astute [www.stand-and-deliver.org.uk] hence the more modern day term "highway robbery"

I've read replies to my comment and well, I guess Pathways isn't for everyone.

That's probably a good thing.

I notice how pieces of what I write get commented on, while other parts are ignored.

It's good that people have a healthy skepticism, it's what keeps us all from getting to trouble. It's also good to keep an open mind. I speak for myself only, I don't represent anyone other than me here.

I'd like to simply state:

1) Healthy, ongoing education is possible
2) Healthy, ongoing education might cost money
3) Healthy, ongoing education might be spread "word of mouth"

Also, I've been to traditional Buddhist temple gatherings where I've felt, judged and not seen. I've experienced other organized religions to have many faults also. Any system can be corrupt. NOT ALL ARE.

Ultimately we see what we want to see and we hear what we want to hear.

I have worked with Pathways Institute since they were Temenos back in the early 90's. The things I have learned from various workshops and retreats have been invaluable to me. This work is simply personal accountability and practicing love compassion and service.

Scary? You bet it is! Personal accountability can be very scary, especially to someone who has no idea about it. If you are doing this work correctly, you should be afraid. Honesty is not always easy to hear, and that can be frightening to the Ego.

Psychobabble and mind control? These are the words of someone what was not enrolled well at all. Also evidenced with the phrase "roped into it". That's too bad, because they missed a really excellent opportunity to learn and grow. Instead, I imagine that sat through the entire workshop upset because they agreed to do something they really didn't want to.

Cult? I pay for workshops and then I go home. Maybe I will do another workshop, maybe not. If that defines "cult" then I believe the word has lost any real meaning.

Unless you think personal accountability love and compassion is just psychobabble and mind control, this is excellent personal growth work. I highly recommend it.

Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of the LGAT, Pathways
Institute, formerly known as Temenos and possibly, Pathways Sacred Arts
Institute? Many of my family members and friends are presently being
pressured to enroll or have enrolled or have attended the Basic Workshop
and are busy recruiting. The sudden arrival and proliferation of group
participants is alarming. Thanks.

Yes Linda, we do answer - but we don't sit all day looking at this newsgroup
waiting for messages to come in <G> I personally have been here 3 times today
before now ...

To answer you question:

Their webpage is at: [www.pathwaysinstitute.com]

and you should compare what they say with what is at the page on LGAT's

Best resource:

Awareness Page
[www.clever.net]

Pathways' official site is listed, and the guestbook contains a number of
entries mentioning the organization. However, overall very little specific
information is available. If you do find any, please share it with us.

I do recommend reading this article:

Think about it
[www.actcom.co.il]

Though it deals with Landmark, it contains useful information that will help you
think through similar issues in other LGATs.

Anton- Sorry about my impatience...thank you for replying. I have seen the Pathways
Institute website, pathwaysinstitute.com and I do have one of their brochures
describing their workshops. It is really a printed version of most of what you can
find on their site. They do have a connecting site: onetribe.com. In my limited
research I have found out that one of their co-founders may have possibly trained
at Actualizations, founded by Stewart Emery, possibly in the seventies, which I
presume no longer exists, under that name anyway. And Stewart Emery trained at est.
The other co-founder apparently was connected to Temenos (now defunct) and I was
told that Pathways used to be a particularly popular workshop in Temenos and this
name lived on as the new organization. But I am looking for someone who has had
firsthand experience, preferably not recently, who would have somewhat of an
objective view of Pathways and their motives and methods. I believe I have looked
at the pages you mentioned, but I will look at them again, especially the entries
mentioning the organization and I will read the article. LL

Jan- Thank you for replying...sorry I became snippy...I have seen Pathways
Institute website already and I do have a printed brochure, which basically
repeats what is on the site. I'll do what you suggest and also keep posting
messages, in an attempt to find someone with firsthand experience of the group.
I'm glad you all (well, most all) are there, in spite of the bickering. LL

Been there, done that, passed it on . . .

Seriously, I'm fairly familiar with the Pathways Institute,
since I've done almost all of their training courses and
enjoyed them. (I also did the Landmark Forum to see how other
LGATs work, and don't have a particularly high opinion of it.)
I'm not necessarily unbiased, of course, but I'll answer
questions honestly.

Btw, have you tried asking your family members and friends
who did the Basic Workshop (and apparently now doing "Stand
& Deliver," the enrollment-oriented program) your questions,
and/or expressing your concerns?

For example, when my best friend's girlfriend tried to enroll me
in the Basic Workshop, I told her I wasn't willing to get yelled
at or insulted, or deprived of food or sleep, and so forth; and
I only agreed to go after she promised me (truthfully) that the
Basic Workshop is nothing like that . . . and I let her know that
if it was, I was going to walk right out.
