Here's a body language analysis of someone who went to a NXIVM intro:

My take home message is the New York State taxpayers have been getting piss poor patient/customer protection.
in return for their tax dollars.

A grand jury investigation of the NY State regulatory apparatus in relation
to NXIVM affiliated professionals is long overdue and should be done immediately.

@corboy the entire Self help industry needs regulation. IMO NXIVM was practicing therapy without a license when it came to their "EM's" or Explorations of Meaning.

As for Danielle Roberts, osteopath. She is going to be relegated to appearing at holistic health and wellness expos like the Navel.expo in November. Anyone who has or is following the story will make sure future employers are aware about her talent for wielding a cauterizing pen and how she branded women.

Lastly, CBC CANADA did a podcast on Sarah Edmondsen and Anthony "Nippy" Ames her spouse. Good interview with Keith's attorney Marc Agnifilo in Episode 6 (spin it all you want Marc your client is guilty AF).

TwoDjinn,

Lurid scarification rituals and self-help scams aside, the NXIVM matter is of extreme interest to owing to their infiltration of organizations via "executive" training and coaching programs. The executive-help industry is also vastly unregulated, and NXIVM activities inside corporations, or when targeting individuals of influence are surfacing very concerning things.

I have attempted to raise this as a point of concern in my unregulated universe, and people seem to write this case off as a quirky anomaly. It isn't anomalous...just a little further out on a 'spectrum' of unprofessional conduct, IMHO.

Awww Poor Baby -- Raniere Complains It Is Cold In His Jail
Posted by: corboy ()

Raniere's elite group of female disciples followed his orders and kept themselves scrawny on the low calorie diet their master prescribed.

They'd have felt cold all the time.

Raniere, however, does not appear to have missed any meals.

Must be lovin' the steel toilet seat in his jail cell.

Nxivm leader ignores his harem of sex cult acolytes in court, including emotional Smallville star Allison Mack, as his ex says ‘karma’s a b***h’ after he moaned about grim jail conditions.

* Six Nxivm members who have been indicted on federal charges for their role in
a sub-group of the cult that branded sex slaves appeared in court Wednesday

* The five women, including Smallville star Allison Mack, were all seen making
their way into the court looking alarmingly gaunt

* The members all ignored one another and their leader Keith Raniere

A superseding indictment released in July revealed that Raniere, Mack and Lauren Salzman were being charged with wire fraud.

It was also revealed that Raniere and Salzman allegedly locked a woman in a room for two years because she was affectionate for a man who was not her master.

'Raniere and Lauren Salzman trafficked a victim, who was once a sexual partner of Raniere’s, for labor and services,' read a statement released by the US Attorney's Office.

'The victim was confined to a room in Clifton Park, New York, for nearly two years as punishment for having romantic feelings for a man who was not Raniere.

'The victim was told that if she left the room she would be sent to Mexico without any identification documents.

'As threatened, she was driven to Mexico and her family was instructed by co-conspirators, including Lauren Salzman, not to send the victim her identification documents.'

The women who are out on bail are under home confinement, while Raniere has not been granted bail in the case.

Several women are also expected to describe the agony they endured when the symbol containing Mr. Raniere’s initials was burned into their skin. And a woman from Mexico is likely to testify that she was kept for 18 months as a virtual prisoner in the home of one of Mr. Raniere’s supporters because she had defied his order not to become romantically involved with someone else.

In recent weeks, five women who were Mr. Raniere’s co-defendants pleaded guilty to various federal charges, and it is anticipated that some may appear at his trial. Others who were in the group and their relatives had hoped that Mr. Raniere also would strike a plea deal to spare his former followers the ordeal of testifying in public.

“My one reservation about the trial is that these victims are going to have testify and it is going to be terribly traumatic for them,” said Catherine Oxenberg, an actress whose daughter, India, was a member of Nxivm. “If Keith had any decency, he would plead out.”

Doing so, however, would have required Mr. Raniere to publicly acknowledge he is someone other than the person he has long professed to be — a brilliant philosopher blessed with a vision of how to create a better world.

Once Idolized, Guru of Nxivm ‘Sex Cult’ to Stand Trial Alone

Keith Raniere led a group in which women were branded and taught to revere him. Now, he’s on trial, and testimony is expected to be prurient, bizarre and nauseating, court filings suggest.

Mr. Raniere demanded obedience from his male followers. But his treatment of women suggested a deep well of misogyny.

The diet he insisted female followers adopt was so severe that some of them stopped menstruating, former members said. At meetings of a Nxivm-affiliated group called “Society of Protectors,” women were forced to wear fake cow udders over their breasts while men called them derogatory names, according to court filings.

Nxivm had long succeeded in fending off scrutiny. In 2012, when a series of articles in a newspaper, The Albany Times-Union, described alleged abuses within the group, officials largely ignored the disclosures.

Corboy: New York taxpayers got piss-poor value for their money.

Grand jury should investigate why the State of New York officials were so dilatory investigating earlier reports of Raniere's misdeeds. And the doctors who were present at Raniere's female disciples.
