or the spam in general is a coincidence anymore.

I tried to buy it, but I'm just not sold.

every webforum is bombarded by spambots constantly. Its certainly possible that a software glitch on an independent website is allowing some new spambots to register themselves and get a post through.
Otherwise, the moderators would have to approve every single registration manually, and that is too much work.
So its certainly reasonable its a software glitch.

That being said, one can be certain that the enemies of Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Thought (the cultists, Landmark, Scientology, PSI, and the rest of them) would submit this type of forum to spambots over and over.
But the spambots find it themselves from Google.
The more popular a website, the more spambots try to get links on it.

Note:
NEVER EVER press one of the links in these spambot posts anywhere, as these days most of them try to install a trojan software application, or something like that, and they can literally steal your credit card and banking password info, and send it to criminals. Organized crime is behind a lot of serious spamming these days. NEVER press one of those spambot links.
If your computer is not up to date with various protections like a firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware, etc, a trojan.exe can install itself, and you would not know even know it.

It is only spam and it will eventually be taken care of through a software change.

Be patient.

Just out of curiousity, I went and checked one of the links from one of the spambots.
I used a 3rd party website to view it.
Just as I thought, it pretends to try and show you a video, then gives a fake "error message" that looks legit, about downloading an updated to a video viewer.
Even if you select "no" it will start to download trying several other ways.
It also locks your browser, so you can't turn it off.

That is a .exe "trojan" which is software that can steal your financial information and passwords, and then send it to criminals without your knowledge, if you don't have proper protections on your computer.

Personally, I would suggest the moderators disable ALL new registrations, and do them manually, or not at all until this is fixed.
If a "newbie" presses one of those links, they are going to get a trojan installed on their machines.

so its not even "spam", the spam is a "trick" to get people to install malicious software on their computer without their knowledge.

I thought every post of new members used to be moderated, until they reached about 25 posts. Is this no longer the case?

I'm sure it'll be sorted soon anyway :)

There is a glitch that currently allows spam to be seen before it is deleted.

Be patient, as this will be resolved.

After all, it took them a week or so to do a simple change-over to bigger servers earlier this year. Fixing the spam/moderation problem will also take a bit of time, and should be completed by Christmas.

(ducking)

John

PS. Now if only Landmark Education's forums had this problem! :-P

John Fox:

The problems are being addressed.

Your remarks are not helpful and also inaccurate.

The Ross Institute previously dealt with repeated DDOS attacks, which was resolved by moving the site and board to a more secure server.

We are currently resolving software problems for this message board, which will preclude spam and make the board better.

A new software will soon be in place.

To do the job right takes time.

Be patient and remember that this board is a free public service.

Hey Anticult,

I do a spam sweep several times a day. Sometimes I do one at work. Here's my question, (from a lesser of the computer literate): Is there any possibility this garbage gets onto my boss's computer where he might be able to pull it up? I never click on the links, of course, but the clips and urls are certainly viewable on the screen before I delete them. I'm afraid my boss might think I've been looking at porn on his machine. What's the chance of that?

EZ

Id think the random spambot stuff was a coincedence too if it were happening in the other forum categories, but to occur specificly in the LGAT thread exclusively?
