Landmark is learning the lesson of Scientology, the more you try and squash free speech, especially on a medium as fluid as the internet, critics are only going to get louder, and their message is only going to spread further.

Very, very, [b:a13d0a85d4]very[/b:a13d0a85d4] good point !

Attempts to "squash free speech" as you say, are very bad for business.

Unfortunately, in the end, Landmark Education will learn this the hard way.

Landmark slutar utveckla i Sverige

Det amerikanska Landmark Education som
ger kurser i personlig utveckling
lägger ner verksamheten i Sverige
efter att negativ uppmärksamhet fått
deltagarantalet att falla.

Enligt Dagens Nyheter brukar Landmark
fylla fem-sex kurser om året i Stock-
holm med 110-160 deltagare i varje.
De senaste kurserna har lockat färre
än 30 deltagare, enligt DN:s uppgift.

Kritiken har gått ut på att kurserna
liknar extatiska väckelsemöten vars
syften främst varit att locka fler
deltagare. Ett antal säger att de
brutit samman efter tredagarskursen.

Landmark quits developing in Sweden

The american company Landmark Education
who provides courses in personal development,
are closing down their Swedish operations after
some negative publicity causing a falling number
of participants.

According to swedish morning daily, Dagens Nyheter,
Landmark normally gives 5-6 courses a year in
Stockholm, each having 110-160 participants.
The last few courses attracted less than 30.

The critics mean that the courses could be
compared with extatic religous revival with
the primary purpose to attract more participants.
A number of them claim they suffered mental
breakdowns after the three day course.

From another forum:

Safeguards in Dealing with Landmark Subscribe

Introduction

I get a great deal out of my participation with LandMark Education. It has opened up a remarkable amount of new territory for me. In my reading though, of the medical literature and a mountain of material on mind control, I can not completely disregard the element of risk. I have read about and meet people whose lives seem to have been shattered by this type of training.

I guess part of this is a real terror on my part at the thought of losing control of my life and its direction. I have been repeatedly impressed at the persuasive powers of a Forum Leader or top-notch Seminar Leader. I am not sure about my ability resist a well structured "possibility" in an intense enrolling environment, no matter how "far out" it maybe.

At the same time, I refuse to give up the clear advances I have made with this technology. I guess I want to play it safe while at the same time get everything I can from these experiences.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Safeguards when dealing with LandMark

In my interaction with LandMark Education, so far

1) Always taking intensive courses apart from my wife. The way we put it is that "one stays on the shore, and while the other goes on the LandMark journey....." There are nightly debriefing during the course. The one on "the shore" has complete veto rights regarding any major decisions or communications during the course.

2) Never playing the guest game...

3) Never assist at any LandMark activity. Always be a paying customer.

4) Never signing up for additional course work or making any kind of agreements in the enrolling environment.

5) Never accept coaching on any of the above items.

Outside of LandMark Education

1) Continuous questioning of the usefulness of the distinctions being taught to me. Watch for blurring of distinctions. Does "sharing myself" become "sharing the Forum"? Does "making a difference" become "having people come to a guest event"?

2) Develop alternative sources of distinctions independent of LandMark. Study of classic philosophies (from Plato to Rorty and back again) via their writings and taped lectures.

3) Watch out for thoughts that label any and all good events in my life as a direct result of my participation in the LandMark Education. If I pick a winning Lotto number it is going to be hard to credit the Forum (grin).

What puzzles me is why Landmark is so big in the UK. They've really hit gold. Whereas they've pulled out of many European countries. What makes folk in the UK so receptive to this cr&p?

Yeah, same here in the Land of Oz. Admittedly, we have the tyranny of distance. It must have something to do with 'our' colonial mindset! Meaning that we are very slow to learn...just kick a little harder, please! But we did eventually get colour TV...just waiting on decent broadband...should be by next millenium

Maggie
I heard through a source at a network that one of the top magazine shows (20/20 or Nightline or one of those) allegedly has someone "inside" LE and are planning a big expose for "sweeps week". Apparently this person has become pretty high in the rank-n-file. I can't wait!

The next sweeps period would be the upcoming month of February 2007.

Anyone hear any more news about this?
