- they want you to think this is the best thing that happened to you.
- they want you to recruit others.
- there is a short introduction course or session followed by followup
courses.
- leaders (or leader) are charismatic and have secret knowledge.
- they use strange language. Old words get new meanings and new words
are introduced.
- your environment is controlled. A lot of rules.
- critical people are broken down and made to comply or leave.
- fear is instilled in the "conregation".
- black or white thinking or an all-or-nothing attitude.
- long unpaid working hours. The top people collect the money.
- they attracts all sorts of people and try to make it seem legitimate
saying that lawyers, doctors etc are doing it. Even psychologist.
- robotlike behaviour.
- history of bad press and lawsuits.
- harassment of critics.
- a teaching that is mystical and very hard to learn and apply.
- sharing is a central part. Used to draw your secrets out of you.

Not all may apply to your situation - it may be sufficient for just a few of them to be apparent. The key here is identifying if manipulation is used.

Hi Nettie. Your posts are very helpful to me.
I had lots of people do the hard sell on me. My boss even got me to an into evening but I felt attacked and left.
A dear friend of mine is DEEP into it from back when Werner was there. He describes the hard sell
as an unfortunate annoyance that everyone at Landmark wishes would go away too.
He even thinks that without the hard sell people would love Landmark and it would get even more people!

Did he just make this up on his own or is this a common "conversation" inside Landmark that "we need to lay off the hard sell"?

hard selling is considered by many of landmarks fans
to be "a necessary evil". some people will complain
about it but they never make any attempt to change it.

i believe its one of landmarks outlets for their victims.
if they have at least something to complain about then
they can say "we arent brainwashed" because if we were
brainwashed we wouldnt complain about anything.

many will tell u that landmark is a corporation and as such
needs new people to continue. the recuitment tactics
are repeated over and over again and landmark gets new
victims.

i find it quite interesting to listen to people as they get
themselves brainwashed telling everybody that landmark
is a business and that business needs to take care of themselves.

basically in the united states brainwashing has in fact become
big business. as landmark grows overseas and has
more and more money it become less and less likely that
that the u s government would ever step in to help the people.

government in the us at the moment is shall we say on the
side of big business. most people dont care and wouldnt
take the time to help landmarks people.

its a shame but its the truth.

at this time neither the christian right, nor big business,or right
wing politicians have a clue as to what is happening to what
i call the underlying fabric of our society. they will wake up
some day, perhaps when it is too late.

anything goes as long as their is lots of money attached to it.

it is the christian right that has struck the deals with the
big companies. and at the moment the christian right

In fact, many who reject the LGAT doctrine are Christian. It just goes against the whole idea of Christianity.

Stop blaming everything on Christians.

There is a certain connection with fundamentalist groups of Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

Also, some connection through brainwashing and/or coercive persuasion techniques.

But let's not get too far off topic. And let's try to exercise courtesy and not flame people, which is against the rules of the board.

that thouroughly understands why landmark
is allowed to continue unabated without
showing the relationship between cults, the

landmark does not exist because it just it.
it exists because people are not educated
about it and some that are are too busy to
care.

In discussing why Landmark is allowed to continue, the best example we have of a success in stopping it is what happened in France.

My French is not that great, but they focussed on a new French law for controlling cults.
Almost every sentence was asking if Landmark is a "secte" because if it is, the law would apply.
In the end, it was the way the "secte" abused the volunteer workers rights that got them.

Mr. Ross, I certainly would donate a good chunk to the project if Ross Institute would
sponsor translating the France 3 documentary to English and making it available. It would help me understand better.
I even think it could help someone like Kate to understand how she lost her sister to an LGAT.

No. That would not be something within the budget now.

Not to butt in, but I know a woman who was born in France. She is now an American citizen, but travels back and forth between the US and France regularly. French is her first language, and her English is excellent. She is well-educated. She would probably translate a written copy of the transcript for free, if you had a copy available. Let me know if you'd like to pursue this
