Sorry for the rambling. I hope you can follow what I have written. It may seem strange to someone who has not been in landmark. But this kind of rambling is going on in the minds of true landmarkers...until you are able to shut every part of your old self down...then MAYBE you can become a forum leader and start doing work for landmark and get paid. Very few make it to the level of forum leader. You have to extinguish your old self totally and most people understand that it is not the right path to go to become a free human being.

Cults are about slave-labor. They'd really like robots they can dispose of easily when their useful life is gone. They will do whatever they have to to program and exploit people to the degree that they can get away with, and, by extension, other groups, companies, corporations, and businesses will often utilize the same methods as they become aware of them. Cults are useful for this reason -- they provide open-air laboratories for the research on methods and tactics to get people to work harder for less money. They do the field trials on human motivation and the governments and industries don't get their hands dirty.

And hooray for your YouTube presence, Nettie. I think you've done a great job of poking Landmark in the eye.

Hi Nettie,

I'm catching up on a number of long-standing threads here including this one you started, which is FASCINATING! I have yet to read all 23 pages of this, so if I ask a question that's already been submitted, I hope you'll bear with me. Anyway, I'm intrigued by the P.T.S.D. flare-ups which you mentioned can happen to us, even years after disassociating entirely from est/Landmark.

This, may have, possibly happened to me 14 years after walking away from the organization. Could you expound a bit more on symptoms and red flags to watch out for with an est-driven episode of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?

I think post traumatic stress symptoms may arise in dreams. I actually dreamt last night that I was back in the forum course (in sweden) trying to tell some people about the true nature of landmark. They ignored me and I awoke relieved that it was just a bad dream.

In dreams I think past traumatic experiences will come up. You don't have your defences on as you have when you are awake.

Also I think depression and some type of hypomania can occur long after participation has ended. I can sometimes see that in myself when I feel powerless stopping landmark.

But I guess this is just a layman's view on PTSD.

Maybe other symptoms can be anger, shame. I know a lot of people are shameful for having been duped and possibly having been part of enrolling other people whose lives have been harmed.

I am now having no problems due to landmark anymore.

It has been a process that has taken some time.

Stay in there.

Hope you find the thread interesting. The formatting of bold texts have unfortunately stopped working after an upgrade of the software. I didn't put
these crazy characters around my headers :-)

PS be secretive about you identity. I am safe here in Sweden but if you live among hardcore landmarkers it might turn ugly

Hi Nettie, All.

First of all, thank you for writing about your experience and following this thread for so long. I found it most helpful reading it in 2007.

I participated in the Landmark Forum two years ago and had a 'breakthrough' where I thought I'd gained enlightenment. After an interview with the Forum Leader I was asked to leave early (late Sunday afternoon) and had my fee refunded to me (nice touch - enlightenment for free!). I then spent 6 hours wandering lost in London Underground before pulling it together. I kept in touch with reality for a couple of months after that but wasn't sleeping properly and thinking/writing feverishly (later diagnosed as a hypomanic episode). I then started to lose the plot and found myself sectioned and sedated in a psych ward. Fortunately a good night's sleep sorted me out and I was released a week later, refusing all anti-psychotics.

I hadn't experienced any mental health problems before participating in the Landmark Forum, but I was a bit jetlagged when I started it which probably contributed to my reaction.

I do think the Landmark Forum uses a light form of hypnosis. The Leader said "Some people think we use hypnosis" and the room had a good laugh about that, but not all hypnosis needs a swinging pocket watch and the words 'look into my eyes...'. The instructions given are so vague eg "By 4pm on Sunday you WILL have had a breakthrough" (followed by a hand clap that seemed out of place at the time) that the subconscious could interpret that in so many different ways. I took it on myself to decide that I wasn't going to suppress my energy anymore. Oh boy did I manage that! Very dangerous thing, opening all the doors in your head at once.

Anyway, 2 years on I've finally got around to writing about the experience and posted it to my website which was generated out of that period of hypomania. Hope someone finds it interested - I certainly did. Not something I'd want to repeat though. [www.iamthespoon.org]

Best Wishes,
The Spoon

LGAT/ Landmark, kicking people to the curb

This is the classic Landmark pattern of abuse.
Landmark obviously KNOWS that certain people are going to have mental breakdowns from all of the extreme powerful and harmful techniques they are doing to them in the seminar. Landmark are so aware of it, they watch for signs of it. Because they care?

Of course not, simply to avoid being held responsible when something goes wrong. And when it happens, do they call a doctor?

No, of course not. They simply take that person aside, refund their money to try and hush things up, and kick them out into the street.
Why? Simply to try and protect Landmark.

Do they care if this person goes and hurts themselves, decompensates, or even commits suicide? Of course not. They couldn't care less.
Any normal, decent human being, would personally escort a person who is in distress to seek help from a doctor. Any trained person has to do the same.

But not Landmark, and their "leaders" and workers.
This stuff happens all the time.
Anyone who knows a group of people involved with Landmark know a number of them have gone over the edge due to Landmark.

and of course, Landmark knows all about it.
They just don't care.

No normal person could ever kick a person who has flipped-out onto the streets. Any normal, decent person would get them some assistance.
But Landmark knows their seminars are creating these harmful effects in many people, and if they acknowledge it, then they are in trouble. So they just kick them to the curb.

That is the real Landmark.

Has anyone ever gotten the full information about how many people this happens to who are involved with Landmark seminars?

Actually "Something Wonderful" comes from 2010 so we might yet see life imitate art.

In which case 2001 could be very relevant - "the year we made contact" - those two giant obelisks sending out a message.

What sort of "Something Wonderful" are you thinking about Nettie? Do we have 2 days to leave the planet? ;)

TheSpoon:

Please stay on topic.

The topic here is Landmark Education, not 2001.

BTW--personal attacks are against the rules.
