There's the start of a thread on the MKP at the freedom of mind yahoo group. Plus this topic appears to have been idle a while..... so bump.

Does anyone know where they are holding their UK weekends now that they've been kicked out of the Scout camp at Kibblestone or wherever? The website mentions Ringwood, Hampshire (UK). There is a large youth camp there - but am not sure if this is the one they use. Perhaps 'Scout' can ask around and report back?

I'm not sure, they have 5 UK weekends listed on their calender, but no locations (no surprise). It seems odd a group that does such important work would need to hide in the "shadow".

On a side note they seem to have had quite a difficult year. At the EX/MKP forum there have been quite a few email memos (internal) which claim the chairman is resigning, there have been numerous lawsuits (quite a few by members), they are thinking of moving their office out of the US, they are redoing their protocols, etc. The sister group Woman Within (International section) has recently stopped its trainings so the mangement can be "recasted". They claim to have been operating in the red for the last few years, but the solution to this was to hire 5 new top end managers.

Add to this the exposure from this and other forums, the Micheal Scinto lawsuit, etc. I wonder if all of this is a symptom of a larger problem for the group, or specifically the upper "management"?

I see from the website that they’ve decamped down to Devon. Lots of cults function down in the West Country being away from the prying eyes of London-based authorities. Does anyone know which venue they are now using?

Next Training Dates in United Kingdom
16th May 2008, Exeter, Devon
18th July 2008, Exeter, Devon
19th September 2008, Exeter, Devon
28th November 2008, Exeter, Devon

Yes, I know from first hand experience that Landmark are very active in the Totnes/Exeter area, as well as Bristol.

I see the Scinto lawsuit has been settled, and at the request of the MKP, sealed. However, some of the details were revealed prior to being sealed. Unfortunately I doubt if the MKP in houston or anywhere else has any intention of adhering to it.

Anything new from anyone else?

Here's another article about the settlement.

I'm sure there are ways the Scintos can find out if the changes have been made regarding the screening process. Good for them. They were able to do something to change the way this group is run - it's a big accomlishment. I've read some comments from people saying the changes aren't enough. Granted, this group needs to be shut down but the changes will definitely help.

It seems a lot of people want to sit around and complain about MKP but nobody wants to write their congressman or contact the Board of Psychology or the Attorney General - or contact the local churches, YMCAs and Boy Scout camps where they hold their meetings. If everyone who has had a negative experience with MKP does just one thing, then there is a good possibility of shutting them down.

There's a lot of thruth in this:

Inside the head of a new cult member
New Statesman/June 30, 2008

By Allen Tate Wood

Allen Tate Wood, a counselor who specialises in the mental and spiritual rehabilitation of former cult members, explains the process by which cults recruit new blood.

... snip ...

The goal of cult psycho-technology is the production of a series of peak experiences designed to make an impression on new recruits. For many cult members, these behaviorally and environmentally induced "spiritual experiences" lead from a healthy, open and questioning attitude to a complete regression into dependence and reliance on the cult group.

These experiences, occurring often as they do within the highly charged, tightly controlled atmosphere of the cult, are not subjected to the kind critical scrutiny that they ordinarily would be. Instead they are metabolized and socialized within the language and doctrine of the cult. They are the occasion for increased approval from the group. Phenomenologically speaking, they initiate the "divine history" of the individual, and they reinforce the history and mythology of the group. What is perceived as a flash of illumination and liberation becomes, in fact, the first step in a march toward moral slavery and psychological bondage.

The successfully socialized cult member has entered a world in which submission to authority, blind obedience and conformity have supplanted such "outmoded" notions of character formation as the development of self-reliance, the capacity for critical thinking and the need for openness and compassion in human relationships. Successful indoctrination into a destructive cult results in the repudiation of the individual conscience, rejection of one's critical faculties and the colonization of the imagination understood as a supernatural experience.

... snip ...
