Long time ago my brother's wife was involve with this group called the "awaken foundation" which I personally believe to be some sort of scam,cult or whatever, but I seek your opinion before I go ahead and pass judgment on this group, now for many years being out of it, her family is involved and trying to get her back which is causing quite a bit of sadness and sorrow for my brother , their all talking about leaving and going there to this place to study the fourth way, (whatever that may be) this is the site [www.awakenfoundation.org] any help or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Have you ever heard of this group? I am really worried about her and what may happen, maybe I'm over reacting, but I need help,
please if anyone knows anything about this group I would really appreciate any and all input

This most certainly looks like a cult… a good first indicator to stay away or be weary is when the leader claims to have an elevated spiritual knowledge or enlightenment that others need… also claiming to have been specifically “chosen” to be the conduit of lost spiritual meaning… Another indicator to be weary about is the self commission…


As stated on the website:

“The Teacher was inwardly commissioned to reveal to mankind of the 21st century the complete spiritual path that has been lost for thousands of years.”

The website also defines what a complete spiritual leader is… this is presented as “matter of fact” and falls along the lines of redefining terms for ones own use… another indicator!

The teacher is also claiming to be self sufficient in having provided for himself without the help or donation of others; yet has set up a way for you to pay for his enlightening through his book and school…

These are just a few red flags at first glance… it may seem attractive to some who are seeking but the reality is these are tell tale signs to watch out for… I would contact a specialist who knows about this particular group or cults and ask if they would help you speak with your family members…

It strikes me that there is no name, no photo of the teacher in the website or on the book.
There is a lot of info on the fourth way on Rick Ross. Awaken foundation is not listed on most fourth way sites. One site mentiones them with a disclaimer attached to it.
They are listed as charity with Edwin S Douglas as president. I googled his name and found someone involved in theories about raw food and not eating yeast. And apperently it is the same guy :
On a forum on wheat allergies, this was written (just some relevant lines)

"Here's a quote from a friend of mine, whos's been into this for quite some time, and even runs a raw food clinic out of his home:
"symptoms of schizophrenia can be severely exacerbated by consumption of even small amounts of wheat.
........... let me know if you're interested in contacting my friend, and I'll forward his email address to you. He runs something called the Awaken Foundation, and is also located in CA."

WARNING : I looked on yahoo for "awaken foundation california" , just clicked the limited information and got a huge bitdefender alarm for several viruses and trojans.

If you look into the heart of the The Teachers' below statement, you will understand that he clearly thinks he is, in essence, God. Am I stretching it a bit? Just read his "Invitation" message.

I will remind everyone that Yeshua said, "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and the LIFE...."

Here, The TEacher clearly communicates that he is the WAY and the TRUTH and the LIFE.

Thank you to all for taking time to respond to my question, does anyone know who I can get in touch with to help my family member with this? I just don't know where to look or what a specialist is called that deals with this, any help or direction will be greatly appreciated
