It appears as though there are a number of new posters here. I would like to welcome you, though our circumstances for such a meeting are sad indeed. I'm so very sorry that you've found yourself here.
It's been a while since I've posted, so I'll share a little bit of my story.
My family and I attended TP for many years. Over the last few years we started to notice things that we found distasteful (for the lack of a better word). We also had some issues here and there with the way that we were treated (and the way our kids were treated), but always took the brunt of it upon ourselves. We saw things that we wondered "do the elders see that?" Always, we justified it, we assumed that things were being handled privately, we believed that the mistreatment were isolated incidents, and we kept saying that if things were really the way we saw them, the elders would do something about it. We also knew that we would never find a church that was perfect, so we agreed to disagree.
Then, Pastor Jackie resigned. We realized that an elder had seen *something*. My husband and I spent some time and really dug into the word, and we prayed, and we fasted. It was a tearful time (it often still is). As we were trying to discern what the Lord would have us do, our hearts were breaking. At the end of about a week, we were pretty sure of our decision, but we knew that there was one more step we needed to take. We met with Pastor Jackie, and her husband Sid. They listened to us talk, and they answered our questions. It became clear that, yes, the elders DO see what's going on, but only one was willing to do anything about it.
We have not returned to TP.
The final straw for us, was the new direction that Pastor Mike is leading the church, the apostolic ministry as it's taught at TP. We simply could not support that move, and risk our salvation, or that of our children. It was about that time that I found this message board, and began to read the stories and questions that others had. I was in a state of shock. I could not believe that the mistreatment that we had suffered was so wide spread. I was amazed when I realized that others had the same questions about the finances that we had, and couldn't get any answers either. It wasn't until I read some of the info here, that I really dug into and began to understand what was wrong with the prosperity doctrine (I knew *something* wasn't right, but I couldn't put my finger on it). My heart has been broken again and again.....
So, here we are. It's been about four months. We've found a new home church, it wasn't easy. I miss TP. Leaving was difficult, probably one of the most difficult things I've done. I have watched as friends have chosen to stay, and support the leaders at TP, and I've shared in the sorrow as other friends have chosen to leave. I'm disappointed. I still *struggle* with my emotions. I am so sad about what's been lost. I am angry and frustrated. I am appauled at some of the things that I continue to hear and see from TP. I fear for the salvation of those I love. And honestly, I fear the wrath of God for the leaders that have allowed, and continue to encourage this mess. I have good days, and I have bad days, some days just are.
I pray for TP, for Mike and Cyndi, for the elders, deacons and other leaders. I pray for the men and women that choose to stay, and those who choose to leave. I pray for repentance, and for healing. I trust that God will bring both, in His time.
