Not all Orthodox Christian parishes or missions meeting Lifton and Singer's criteria for cults, but plenty of current and former Orthodox Christians describe spiritual trauma, homophobia, and are alarmed by how many right wing white supremacist converts are distorting and co-opting Orthodox Christian parish life. Others are very troubled by parishes that are sex negative and attempt to impose celibacy on married couples and priests who behave as dictatorial gurus.
