Khalifah is a Muslim organization which recruits the young upwardly motivated. As far as I know it combines political and fundamentalist aims.Like Opus Dei they target universities- where proselytes with future influence are likely to be found.
However we had a cell of Khalifah in the small UK town of no intellectual pretensions where I live. They ran in groups like squaddies, stuck inflammatory notices on lamp posts and had a stall in the market. The men were all alike- large and muscular with creamy complexions - suggesting moroccan ethnicity.
Now the same chaps are to be seen with heavily veiled wives and baby buggies. But the stall selling pure headgear for ladies, literature and oddly smelling goods survives.
Has anyone further knowledge of this group and its aims? Is it fading or expanding?
