"Summum" religion of Salt Lake City

I stumbled upon this odd Egyptian-themed SciFi cult.

The founder is Summum Bonum Amon Ra, but he goes by a more informal "Corky" Ra (No kidding).

They seem fixated on the mummification process and charge handsomely (big surprise) for these services. Supposedly over 250,000 people have visited their temple or read their literature.

Here is a link to more info:

At the above link are still photos and two youtube videos no more than 5 minutes or so long.

Has anyone encountered this cult before? Not to run them down right out of the gate but it sounds like a science fiction themed funeral home.

Yes, that's pretty wacky. I've encountered Summum Bonum Amon Ra before in relation to his re-writing of the classic mystical text, "The Kybalion" -- [www.summum.us]

More on his philosophy here: [www.summum.us]

One of the links from Atlas Obscura didn't function properly. Here is the direct You Tube link to "Corky" Ra talking about mummification and the costs involved (YIKES!) and the hope that the mummies can be cloned sometime in the distant future and "Corky" and his "clients" can be brought back to life. This originally appeared on the Discovery Channel.

It now makes sense. This is nothing more than Cryonics for people who don't like cold weather.

Thanks for the links, Sandman.

I liked the second link of your post that includes what looks like a Pentagram. Are these cats blending pagan/satanic symbols into their "blue skinned alien" religion as well?

Now it seems they may be "borrowing" things from the Raelians.

Or maybe the Raelians borrowed it from Summum? I don't know which came first. Either way, to claim you can do cloning is a smart publicity stunt for any cult. Ha :-)

The symbol of the pentagram with wings on either side is also used by the Rosicrucians. The Kybalion would be Hermetic philosophy also fitting in with the Rosicrucian tradition, and Summum's described as Gnostic Christianity, so as is typical with these groups, it's a pick n mix of a few different influences. Not sure they're potentially dangerous as such, but quite entertaining.

Thanks for pointing it out, and the [atlasobscura.com] site which is fantastic, will come in handy for traveling.

Atlas Obscura that you linked to above is a great site and covers the entire world (and gives maps to the interesting places on Earth, including Antartica).

Summum is covered by RRI and the link to group information page on Summum is found here:
