(Groan)

Folks, let us rend our garments. Murderers on death row get marriage proposals and love letters.

Years ago, a supervisor of ours at a public health clinic, a man who had vast experience with dangerous and crazy people said 'I am sick and tired of seeing serial killers glamorized and portrayed as geniuses in the movies and media.'

'They're damaged people. A lot of them exploit their pathos. Behind the mask, they are losers.'

It seems that Judge Darrow has decided to take early retirement, according to this info on Cosmic Connie's blog:
[cosmicconnie.blogspot.com]

'Judge Darrow, who spent nearly two years refereeing a consistently contentious adjudication, has announced that he will retire early next year. In an email, he wrote a brief summation of his thoughts on a decade on the bench.

"I cannot overstate my appreciation for the opportunity I have been given to serve in this position of profound responsibility," he wrote.'

I disagree with the light sentence that he imposed on JAR for three customer deaths on DeathRay's watch, but appreciate that it was a difficult judgement to make for a person steeped in the political manoeverings of upholding the current system.
According to people watching the TV broadcast, the emotional conflicts Darrow was experiencing in the moment of delivering his sentence were plain to see on his face.

"There were events in the case that may have hindered the process," Darrow said, later adding that he was secure in his decision not to grant the term of probation Ray and his attorneys had asked for.

"My basic decision," he said, "does not rest on my concern over the legal issues. Mr. Ray, when a person has your incredible abilities to gain people's trust, there are a lot of responsibilities that go along with that."

Looks like Judge Darrow was burnt out.
Or who knows, as some others have hinted at, maybe something more nefarious was going on.
But many many people have gotten far harsher sentences for a lot less.
And who knows how much of a reduction Ray's attorney's are going to be able to get on appeal.

The reality is that Ray could easily have a few million in valuables socked away under the mattress from the Oprah fame that Oprah gave James Ray. Who knows where that money ended up.

[cosmicconnie.blogspot.com]

cosmic connie also talks about Joe Vitale and his Story of the woman who he says is going to make 50 million a month from an oil find on her property.

This is simply a fabricated story by Joe Vitale. Made up out of thin air.
Vitale sells "Miracle Coaching" which means he sells people on Magical Thinking, like thinking they are going to make the biggest finding of domestic oil in their backyard and become a billionaire by Magick.
Joe Vitale encourages those who he is trying to extract cash from, to engage in delusional magical thinking, like a deluded gambler at a casino.
Then Joe Vitale hopes he can liberate that money from their purse.

Its a brazen obvious scam, and sadly some fall for it.
Vitale mentions his stupid Ego-car constantly, as that makes it a tax write-off, the car could even be leased.
But he is targeting people who think driving an expensive car will make others respect them.

Joe Vitale is going to end up like he started. Dead broke.
He could even be broke right now, trying to prop up his lifestyle.
Many of these low level New Wage hucksters like a Joe Vitale, are technically broke, and everything is just a cheap facade.

In Arizona, if you're poor and get busted, and cannot get a bail reduction your ass is kicked.

If you're a rich gringo spiritual entrepreneur with great connections...muy different!

An interesting comment string (link above) on the Droid site, decoding what is on DeathRays admittance sheet:

Lanna said : PrisonTalk.com user 1031 says Edu. 4 means his education needs are “Functional literacy needs (8th grade).” This is one step above “E5 Low IQ (possibly exempt)/ Foreign national.” Once he learns how to read at an 8th grade level, he can move up to “E3 GED needs,” and when he completes his GED he’ll be at “E2 Completed FL/GED.” Only at that point will he be eligible for Work Based Educational programming, and then he’ll get a Voc. score.

I gather that the fact he needs 8th grade level tutoring means that he is barely literate and not, as he claimed, a few hours short of a psychology degree.

Yakaru said: According to wikipedia they score security level on a 1 – 5 scale, with 5 being maximum security. They have Death Ray pegged at 2/3, so maybe they’re still working out exactly what kind of maniac he is.

A very good post from La Vaughn on the sentencing, that also picks up on Ray's educational claims ( 'a few hours short of a psychology degree' ) when considering how the judge reached his decision.

Well worth reading for the insights, and with a short clip of his appalling tearful performance when pleading for mercy, mercy he utterly failed to show for his victims.

The first (of many, I'm sure) appeal is in:

Yet more on the appeal, with some interesting comment from Sheila Polk. DeathRay has been moved again and might get out by next April:
