I like looking at artwork from Central Asia and the former Ottoman territories.

(Groan and dont have the money to take any of it home, alas)

That is one reason why Ive been interested in looking at items for sale on various and sundry Sufi sites.

The impression I take away is that when looking at sites geared to Western Sufis, it seems to take a lot of money to supply oneself with the necessary prayer beads, books, especially if one has to continually buy new books by one's Pir, Murshid or Shiekh.

Note: if you need prayer beads, you should never be pressured to buy a ridiculously expensive set from your order.

Ive seen quite nice and affordable tishbeh's on websites for the islamic community.

A set of plain wood or plastic that costs no more than $15 will do just fine.

Ebay is your friend.

At least, if you want a set of ebony prayer beads get it because YOU want it, not because your sheikh is bugging you to buy it from his (or her website).

I saw one website that had really exotic sufi practice items--an ebony staff, amber rosary, a rock crystal gadget that looked like a star shaped frisbee.

Real sufis were often poor, for cryin out loud.

There was even a proverb:

Ten dervishes can sleep on one carpet.
Two kings cannot live peacefully within one kingdom.

If you're in a situation where asked to purchase elegant and expensive items
because they supposedly will give you 'baraka' here is a very common sense
discussion

View Full Version : Wearing a Ring Absorbs Bad Energy?

It boils down to...let nothing be a distraction from what is truly important.

And..let no person ever feel pressure to purchase what he or she cannot
afford.
