I can't see how folks admire ET.
Its not intellectually coherent. He uses the mind to attack the mind.
He doesn't live what he preaches. The guy is now running a multimillion dollar empire!

There are many psychologists who teach Mindfulness, without the gibberish, and that can help.
Cognitive Therapy is much better too.

I happened to see an Oprah show the other day, and didn't watch the show, just the commercials, which pay for the show. Here were the sponsors...

eye shadow / toilet paper / heart-burn / Disneyland / Lowes / cars / Stretch-Mark Oil / Pizza Hut / Jenny Craig / Glade /

It all does seem to fit together nicely.
Eckhart Tolle and The Secret fit right in with the softer toilet paper salesmen. Disposable consumerism that feels good.

But as far as ET, he seems to be a fraud.

Having read and studied numerous spiritual books including the bible, I find that what Eckhart Tolle teaches to be very valuable.

The trouble with softer toilet paper

Anticult referred to ads for softer toilet paper.

Problem I have found with softer TP is that it clogs the john much more easily
than brands like Scott.

But...at least its relatively simple to deal with a clogged john...you get the plunger.

A stopped up mind is so much more difficult to clear up. At least if the toilet is
plugged we know its a problem.

But when one's own mind has been plugged up and co-opted, one doesnt even
understand that one's own capacities have been diminished.

Corboy, I like the softer TP = softer mind metaphor. Thanks.

The first step is always softening up the Mind.

I find it very interesting that Eckhart Tolle seems to have a lot of support in the New Age community, at least for now.
But its strange, ET is selling you can have less of an Ego, and this leads to bliss.
Well, he also states that we are all to be like Jesus. Well, last time I checked, Jesus = God.
So how can not having an Ego, make you a Godman?

I know, I know, its the death of the carnal mind, etc.

But what if its all bullshit? What if its just massive Egomania to think you can make your mind into a Godmind, by not having a Mind. (or whatever).

What is funny, is Tolle writes in very dense text. He is USING HIS COGNITIVE MIND TO WRITE THAT TEXT. And you are too when you read it 5x.

So its a trick, a mind-trick.
Of course he would say that the trick is the trick, or whatever, and down into the Rabbit Hole, you go.

How can an Egoless Being, be running a large global profit making machine, like Eckhart Tolle is?
He has always been a businessman, since day one. He ain't some Monk, he's a salesman.

His salespitch is he has the Secret to Happiness.
But does he?
Or is it a sham?
Is it destructive?

Why is he selling dozens of different products?

Why do you attack Eckhart Tolle? Have any of you even read his book?

A weird aspect of Tolle's 'wisdom' is when, in Chapter 1, he states that we should start listening to the voice in our head. He calls this 'Watching the listener'. But isn't that contradictory? I mean, is he saying use the mind to listen to the mind?

You can read the Chapter 1 excerpt here: Barnes & Noble
