Ching Hai has also created a marketing system to go mainstream. For example, her slogan,
--- Be Veg, Go Green 2 Save the Planet! ---
that is absolutely brilliant Ching Hai mass media marketing. Because, in this day and age, who is against Going Green and saving the planet? Who is against eating more Veggies?
So this gives Ching Hai a perfect cover to try to go more mainstream. Also, her followers who work in an office or Salon. They can approach anyone with Be Veg, Go Green 2 Save the Planet! and that is an open door to Ching Hai. They just hand them a brochure or DVD on Ching Hai.
That is about 100x more effective than most sects.
So in fact, Ching Hai has usurped part of the Green movement, to use as a cover, and its brilliant. (meanwhile Ching Hai does the opposite, like trashing the environment while building illegal islands, etc).

And she can hide behind organic Veganism. And some of the Vegans choose to support her, as they think it will help veganism, by going out and making active CONVERTS to veganism, using the Ching Hai system of indoctrination.

I can’t stop wondering what this Supreme Master must have done to you or your magazine to deserve such a scathing treatment? One would think that the simple fact of having inspired hundreds of people to open vegan restaurants around the world deserves a kudos or at least some respect. With +50 billion farm animals still being slaughtered every year around the world, ANYONE that is helping people to make the transition is a hero in my book. Let alone encouraging the opening of 160 restaurants, especially in this sucking economy! Shouldn’t we help each others? Aren’t we all in the same boat? Wouldn’t it be wiser to instead use your investigative reporters to cook some scathing article on Foster Farms, Tyson Food or Monsanto? Now, that would be a great use of their time and frankly mine too!
(...)
Let’s be honest here, if it wasn’t for these fringe spiritual groups, we wouldn’t have had any vegetarian restaurants for the past 20 years. So why don’t you cut them some slack and focus on what matters.

I was shocked and so saddened by the malicious attack on Supreme Master Ching Hai. The goodness she has contributed to our world is immeasurable. Not only has she given spiritual guidance and upliftment to millions, she has also been the guiding light of the hope and efforts to save our world from the effects of global warming through adoption of the vegan diet. That you would choose to attack her in a low class erroneous piece of so-called journalism is very sad indeed. If you have done equivalent or more to what she has done, maybe then you can be in a position to criticize her. She does not take donations, and yet has single-handedly contributed millions to help those in need, including our beautiful animal friends. Through her benevolent vision and guidance, more than 170 Loving Hut restaurants have been opened , with more each day. Through the television channel which she inspired, (www.SupremeMasterTV.com) millions are finding out the true facts about the cause of global warming. If the world is saved, I have no doubt it will be due to Supreme Master Ching Hai’s tireless and loving efforts.

After personally spending twenty years meditating under the tutelage of Supreme Master Ching Hai – and working closely with her at the United Nations and in several disaster relief projects – I would challenge you to find a person more sincerely devoted to the public good. She is by far the most passionate advocate in the world of a global shift to a vegan diet. If you don’t believe it, then watch just one hour of Supreme Master Television (http://suprememastertv.com). Her wisdom is simple –

She has spent her entire life devoted to the upliftment of society, usually at great personal sacrifice. If you were to personally witness the nobility of those she has inspired as they rush to serve in disaster relief projects – you would feel ashamed at allowing your media platform to be used for such a negative portrayal.

We live in such a harsh, unkind world! Millions of innocent animals are being slaughtered for food as we speak. The enormous livestock industry destroys our planet day by day stealing the future from our children. We are facing global warming, world hunger, fatal disasters, etc. We all know that only the Vegan way will save our planet and give hope to our children to live. Our very lives are at stake! And the majority of our population is still fighting it very hard, defending their meat-eating habit. So, what was the purpose of “exposing” a humble, loving, kind Master whose only wish is to save you, yes, you are included in Her wish!

Over the past few years, I have met several people who practice this faith, but as I have had limited knowledge of the organization and its leader, was intrigued when I saw the article. All I could think after reading it, however, was, “What was the point?” Why would you publish something so scathing about an organization that has succeeded so well in promoting veganism? So what if the writer thinks it’s a cult (which I don’t think it is) – at least they’re doing something positive for the world. I know a lot of elitist vegans who can’t be bothered to “spread the word” to others who are unlike them, who instead only regurgitate the same message amongst each other, or others who are all too preachy and condescending, and are therefore ineffectual in getting anyone to listen. (In fact, sometimes when I’m around certain vegans, I wonder if veganism itself isn’t a cult…) But here’s a faith that has in a short time managed to convince millions of people to become vegan, probably because they do it in a very loving, non-judgmental way. Why would that not be a cause for celebration?

Interesting that she calls her method of meditation the Quan Yin method. Quan Yin is the goddess of compassion, a mother figure in the pantheon of SE Asian gods, and Ching Hai aligns herself with just such a mother figure, pouring out the waters of compassion for the vulnerable people that she targets.

The Chinese characters "Quan Yin (Guan Yin) " mean contemplation of the Sound Vibration. The Method includes meditation on both the inner Light and the inner Sound. These inner experiences have been repeatedly described in the spiritual literature of all the world's religions since ancient times.
For example, the Christian Bible states, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) This Word is the inner Sound.(...)

Kuan Yin’s Method of Listening to Sound

In the Surangama Sutra, it’s said that when we use our eyes and see that the boundary of seeing or vision is limited — we only see about 30% of what’s around us. We have to turn our head left and right and backwards to see everything, so we’re only seeing about 30% unless we do that. For HEARING, however, unlike seeing the proportion of efficiency is more like 100%. Doesn’t matter where the sound comes from, you can hear it. There’s no natural blockage or limit. Sound therefore is a more efficient method for cultivation.
The Buddha Manjushri said in this world there is a clear and clean teaching of sound. Sound and chi are closely related. The reason we hear is because of chi — chi (air) can transmit sound. CHI means ENERGY. It exists in all directions, so in the Surangama Sutra, Manjushri said the best way to cultivate was to listen to sound. He examined 25 cultivation methods and said for this world, this Earth, this method was the best for human beings. It can help you attain enlightenment quickly.
(...)
After this you can have all sorts of miraculous superpowers. That’s why Kuan Yin has 32 special appearances. He will follow the sound (thoughts) and try to help people. He can do that because he’s out of the stream of sound so he’s never confused and can follow it back to the origin. The method is so powerful that Kuan Yin used it to reach enlightenment before Shakyamuni, but came back to be an assistant. Manjushri praised this method, Samantabhadra attained enlightenment by using a hearing technique as well.

The Enlightenment of Guan Yin /Avalokiteshvara
The Bodhisattva Kuan-yin made a great vow to release all sentient beings in the universe from suffering. Numerous miraculous events have been attributed to Kuan-yin all over the world. Because of the intimate relation that he has with us, it is taught that by undertaking his method of cultivating realization, one will obtain swift success.
There is an important passage in the Shurangama Sutra in which Bodhisattva Kuan-yin relates how he cultivated realization. In that sutra, twenty-five bodhisattvas, in response to the inquiry of Buddha Shakyamuni, explained their methods of cultivation and spiritual attainment. Afterwards, the Buddha asked Bodhisattva Manjushri to evaluate what had been said. Manjushri pointed out that Kuan-yin’s way of cultivating realization through hearing was best suited for the people of this world.

The Quan Yin Method Frequently Asked Questions
2.0 The Quan Yin Method in brief
2.1 What is the Quan Yin Method?
Quan Yin Method is a meditation technique on both the Inner Light and
the Inner Sound. The Chinese characters "Quan Yin" mean contemplation
of the sound vibration. These inner experiences have been repeatedly [No need to say who is Quan Yin?]
described in the spiritual literature of all the world's religions
since ancient times.
With this method, we can all attain understanding of the great joy,
compassion and heavenly bliss described in religious and spiritual
scriptures around the world. More than just a simple meditation
technique, this living teaching brings to anyone who sincerely desires
it the ability to carry the meditative state into all parts of their
lives. It offers each of us a way to have true love and understanding
for our fellow beings, to play our part in society while still keeping
our mind clear of worry and attachment, and a way to find freedom here
and beyond this world.
2.2 Who teaches the Quan Yin Method?
Supreme Master Ching Hai teaches (...) [it seems noone else can teach it... cos it's not mentioned]
2.3 How do I learn the Quan Yin Method?
Supreme Master Ching Hai accepts people from all backgrounds and religious
affiliations for initiation. (...) [again, Ching HaiTM only]
2.4 What is the initiation and the Five Precepts?
The initiation into the Quan Yin Method is not an esoteric ritual or a
ceremony for entering a new religion. During the initiation, specific
instruction in meditation on the Inner Light and Inner Sound is given,
and Supreme Master Ching Hai provides the "spiritual transmission". This first
taste of Divine Presence is given in silence. Supreme Master Ching Hai need not
be physically present in order to open this door for you. This
transmission is an essential part of the Method. The techniques [this should be easy to check...]
themselves will bring little benefit without the Grace of the Master.

Q: If one attains the highest level after practicing the Quan Yin
Method, what would it be like, and have any of Your disciples attained
that?
M: If one attains the highest level in Quan Yin practice, then one
becomes like Bodhisattva Avolakitesvara, you know, Quan Yin [wouldn't it be relevant to say that Avolakitesvara is Quan Yin himself?]
Bodhisattva, who can hear everything, can see everything, and can help
people in different corners of the universe, without having to be near
them or without having to know their names or person. And this is of
course the goal of every follower of different religions, to become
omnipresent, to become a source of blessing for all the suffering [I didn't know that]
beings. And some of our disciples have attained near this kind of
level, but they are very humble. You will not be able to discern them. [I wonder who teached them humility...] :)
It's just sometimes other disciples can tell, or during meditation then
you can see, who is which level.

Q: Dear Master, there is always a fear of the unknown. How can one be
certain that the Quan Yin method is the right one?
M: Of course, you don't know until you try. But as you see, from our
lining principles, you can see that, even if the Quan Yin method
doesn't do you any good, or you are not certain of the benefit of the
Quan Yin method, one thing you can be certain that it will do you no
harm. No harm if you eat vegetarian diet, at least, you will be
healthy, if you don't believe in any spiritual compassion at all. It is
proved scientifically that vegetarian diet is healthy for you. All the
hospitals in the world are built for the meat eaters. You know that! [of course, why would we put in hospitals dead people who followed crazy breatharians...]
Q: Master, which religion does the Quan Yin Method belongs to and how
does it differ to other religions?
M: I have explained that all religions are actually the same. They all
talk about the supreme power, the noblest and most compassionate
quality within us. So I include all the religions. I never taught you
to attack each other's religions. This is not the proper attitude for
ordinary people, let alone the spiritual practitioners. Isn't that so? [did I answer your question?...No...Yes Master!!!]

(...)
Q: Master, will I be able to find my dead relatives and communicate
with them if I practice the Quan Yin meditation?
M: Dead relatives? Oh, sure, sure. But I am afraid maybe you don't like [no comment]
to go there.
Q: Did the Quan Yin Method exist also in ancient times?
M: The Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng passed down the Quan Yin Method to ten [really? And what about Quan Yin himself?]
disciples. However, the lineage of the method was discontinued later.
It was because the most enlightened disciple had gone to another
country and developed there, and this country heard no more about this
lineage.
Sometimes because of political reasons, economic reasons or the
collective karma of the people of that country does not allow Master's
teachings to be continued there. So it will go develop in another
place.
This time is urgent, besides so many disasters, so many wars, so many [ah, by the way...]
suffering in this world, you can't wait to select one or two disciples.
It is the order from heaven that we spread it quickly and openly. It is
the mercy of heaven, of Buddhas also.
We have accumulated too much negative karma, through the killing of
animals en masse, and through many destructive weapons.
