So why is Ching Hai pushing the Breatharian dangerous fraud so much?
They pretend to push organic vegan, but in fact are really pushing the Breatharian fraud. (that is called bait & switch).

Why is she doing that?
Its all about utterly ruthless extreme psychological influence. Because when she sets up an objective for the followers which is IMPOSSIBLE, that means you are guaranteed to fail, and are thus locked into Ching Hai for life.

The problem with Breatharianism, is that vulnerable people are going to try it, repeatedly. That is called self-starvation, and some people will try it repeatedly, and severely damage their body, starving themselves, and then bingeing and purging as an eating disorder.
Some insane people are talking about putting CHILDREN into Breatharian. Those people obviously must be reported to child welfare authorities instantly. There are some truly cruel and deluded people in this world, who apparently would put a child on Breatharian, which means, starve a child. (children are often those who suffer the worst in these destructive sects).

Is Ching Hai going to be held responsible for influencing people to damage their bodies with the Breatharian fraud?
What Ching Hai is saying about being Breatharian needs to be found from the above links, and put together in one place.
Since Ching Hai has chosen for psychological persuasion reasons to use Breatharianism as a psychological weapon on her followers, then she has to be held accountable for this.

Ruthless profiteers at any cost, even unto (others) deaths or permanent injuries.

These persuaders have learned that in fact advanced persuasion skills used in this context, can drive people to the point of sacrificing their own lives.

He is now on trial for the deaths of 3 of his followers in a "sweat lodge" seminar, after people had subjected themselves to severe food, water, and sleep deprivation, after extreme psychological persuasion. 3 people died, many others were injured.

The New Age Guru knows if they apply the most powerful group persuasion tools known, then they can in fact get people to believe and do literally anything.
Even to the point of risking their own lives.
This gives the Guru close to absolute power over their followers, as if the followers will risk their actual life to try to win the Guru's approval, they will do anything else.
Like give them all their money, work for them for no pay for years on end, leave their families and husband for the Guru, and become a loyal follower and soldier of the Guru.
That is the dream of these disturbed Gurus, to have a core of followers who will willingly risk their lives for the Guru.
That is why they are grooming them for the lethal fraud of Breatharianism.

Do most "sane" Gurus want people to actually die for them? No, they just want the POWER it gives them, when the follower will do anything for them, even risking their own life. This gives the Guru the power to issue commands, and their followers will do them, no questions asked. They will hand over all of their money, they will leave their families, they will work 18 hrs a day for no pay, they will do anything for the Guru's approval.
They will even Breatharian starve themselves for days on end, to try and win the Guru's approval. Of course, this self-starving also makes the person weak and more suggestible. Then when they eat again, they feel like a failure.

Just read what these Gurus think. They literally don't care if followers actually die from following their instructions, they blame the victim.
Then some insane Gurus take it one step further, and those are the ones you read about in the paper.
But the other Gurus, just take followers to the point where they 'would' die for the Guru, if asked. That is power.
That is Supreme Master Power, over other people.

That is what the Breatharian fraud is really all about. Is the follower willing to risk/forfeit their life for the approval of the Supreme Master?

Its a similar process, are you willing to go as far as to risk/forfeit your life for the sect's leader? Its about the Guru flexing and testing their power, and taking it to the limit, where there are always causalities to the followers who pay the price.

The main Breatharians cross-promoted by Ching Hai, are outright cons and crooks, and they cross-promote eachother.

I just watch the "documentary", to me that's a shameless scam.

The movie was supposed to bring light (and possibly proofs) on a so-called miracle (a boy living on air since months), by sending a westerners team in order to film the boy continuously during 96 hours. But... they forgot to bring an infrared spot in order to film during the night. What a pity... they may thought that there would be plenty of floorlamps in the deep forest. :) No problem, they decided to let the camera filming, and just show us the parts where there's something visible. How lucky we are...

It reminds me the movie Mystery Men, where there's a super hero whom superpower is the ability to become invisible... when people are not looking at him :D

Seriously, what kind of audience Discovery Channel is supposed to target?

We are accusing Ching Hai to promote a dangerous belief (breatharianism, inedia, pranism, whatever we call it) and of course we have to, even if it's just a collateral scam, not the main point of Ching Hai speech. Supreme Master Television did a few obviously unscientific short reports about self-proclamed breatharians. SMTV mostly concentrate on Ching Hai's ridiculous lectures and documents promoting the necessity to be vegetarian to save the world (often unscientific, but less ridiculous). So even if she's effectively dangerous by accrediting breatharianism to a credulous (but very limited) audience, we may also denounce other much widely watched medias, as Discovery Channel.

I may have missed something (I hope I did! Please confirm) because I'm not native english speaker. But it seemed to me that the "documentary" intentionally avoided to take a stand by concluding if it was true or fake. Wasn't that the reason of their mission to Nepal? They may have wanted to keep the mystery in order to stimulate the audience. What do you think?

I think that it is wise to accept that even so-called 'serious' documentary makers generally avoid making such strong and rigid conclusions on behalf of their audience. You could see that as the media having a primary function to entertain not educate, or maybe having the grace to allow the audience to arrive at their own individual conclusions, or even to spark curiosity and whet the audience appetite for some further investigation of the phenomenom.

I found the film interesting as reportage-- admittedly I thought it a scam of some kind and was looking for evidence of that.

It is interesting to note that the boy disappeared shortly after the documentary was made and then reappeared a year later as a walking, talking, preaching, fully functioning godman. Judging by his impressive muscular development in that year, he had also either been lifting weights or doing some heavy programme of physical work.
Either way he had clearly not been starving himself, that kind of musculature requires a good and varied diet with a regular intake of protein.

He was also insisting that he was not the reborn buddha--as any buddhist knows, he can't be as the term 'buddha' applies to one who is no longer subject to the endless cycle of rebirth--so 'reborn buddha' is a contradiction in terms.

If this breatharianism works, why has it not worked for the many millions of people who have starved to death in the periodic famines the world has suffered--and continues to suffer?

Its interesting that you bring that up. A couple of years ago, I think 3 or so, SMCH rolled out what she called "merit points" where by doing certain activities, one would gain more merit points for "liberation". It required some sort of impossible number of merit points to reach the elusive 5th level of enlightement. On it, watching SMTV for hours on end would generate a ton of points. Thy at one point even advocated leaving it on as background noise 24/7 to "clean" the impurities of this life. LOL. Now thinking of it, you are right, total information control. Gotta give it to here, she knows how to turn people into sheep and manupulate them. Too bad I deleted that email, it was pretty ridiculous on what the point system was like. You get a ton of points for opening a loving hut if I recall correctly.
