Maybe your sister will trust this from the official site of Thakar Singh's successor website. This is the Thakar Singh's group Spiritual Diary which ching hai copied for her own quan yin group all those years ago. She just incorporated the spiritual diary she had been given at initiation with Thakar's group into her group almost word for word & in exactly the same format. At the site you can see this diary either in word file or pdf format. Ask your sister to get out her spiritual diary given to her at initiation & let her compare it to the "Daily Diary" of Thakar's(Now Baljit Singh) group. Just ask her to calmly think deeply about it for a while before she does the hasty automatic rationalization speech.

Also the initiation ching hai dishes out to her disciples is also an exact copy word for word, posture for posture(squating etc) & mantra for mantra(5 Names) of the initiation meted out by Thakar's group & his successor.

Baljit Singh is the official successor to Thakar but ching hai was just one of the disciples who left him after the scandals of his abuses came out.

A Hungarian (Ex?)initiate of ching hai who happened to also have been a disciple of Thakar when ching hai was his disciple has some more interesting info on her website. This sister was close to ching hai during their discipleship with Thakar. You can just skip to the end of the 4th paragraph after clicking the link.
This sister has her photo & name on the site & would not be mentioning this fact lightly.

Though this is a difficult time for you please try not to expend all your energy on them, then forgetting about yourself. Look after yourself emotionally & mentally so you continue to live your life fully showing your family your strength, patience & love so they can hopefully one day see these positive qualities as proof that they really don't need the cult of ching hai to live a happy & fulfilled life.

Anyway thanks for sharing your experience here as it helps to build a wider picture of this cult which will be of great help to those concerned. Posting the shady activities of this cult on here & elsewhere including Wikipedia as Vrindavan mentioned will surely save a few people from the clutches of this very damaging cult.

I begun to write in an other topic about Ching Hai (here) and I've been told that there were more people in this one.

I'd like to introduce my little experience (I hope it will not be too much boring for you guy) :

I'm French (male). I've been confronted with Ching Hai's cult since a year by a friend of mine (a vietnamese girl leaving in Paris) who is a follower. Before that I had never even heard about Ching Hai. At the begining I didn't notice anything wrong in my new friend. It seemed to me she was quite open minded, with a lot of ideas about life, environment, and she was interested in metaphysic questions... so different from any vietnamese girl I knew before. In a word, she was pretty interesting.

But very soon I reached the limits of her personality. In fact everything was ok while it was just about telling me what she knew or believed, but each time I disagreed something, I noticed that she was inefficient in producing any proper reasonning. Each days there were more and more incoherent ideas and naive representations. Any time I asked question like "how can you know that", or "where did you learnt that", she was answering beside my question, or changing subject, or just saying something like "because I know", or "that's so evident!". I just thought she was a little stupid, that's all.

However progressively she told me about her meditation practice, and tried to stimulate my interest for that. I also noticed kitsch pictures of that blonde woman in her purse, her agenda... even the background in her mobile phone. She told me that was her master, and how great she was. After that she showed me the SupremeMasterTV website, and I suddenly understood that absolutely ALL what she told me since the first time we met were in fact from that ridiculous TV chanel.

I was really shocked and didn't know how to react. It was unbelivable for me that an educated girl (the is a postgrad student!) could watch such a TV chanel more than 1 minute without thinking "what the hell am I doing here!". I really tried to watch more, in order to check if there was something good that I missed, but there is not. I understood that SupremeMasterTV was much more than an insult to human intelligence : a brainwashing machine. I didn't know much about sects at that time, but it was obvious to me that she was in a kind of sect. I naively tried to warn her, in vain. An endless denial. Each time she was repeating that Master was so good, that she never lies, impossible. The more I was trying to put her in an awkward position (for her to notice there was something wrong in her beliefs and her blind love for Ching Hai), the more she felt confident to tell me about Ching Hai's teaching. I know that there are still many things that she doesn't allow herself to tell me, but what I heard is already amazing.

Argument after argument, I was getting tired of her. Many times I threw in the sponge, but my friend was always calling me back. I understand that she needs me, which can mean that somewhere deep in herself, she realizes that she needs help. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the little hope which made me hold on until now.

Since last month, I begun to research on the web and found many documents that confirmed point by point my own experience. I also bought some books about sects and mind control techniques, and I realised that I did to my friend the exact opposite of what I should have done to help her. I also took a lot of advices from the Rick Ross Institute. And I'm here to share experiences and discuss some points of view with any people who feel concerned about Ching Hai (ex followers, relatives of followers, even followers themselves).

I'd like to share (and promote, because it is not enough well-known) an article entitled "Supreme Mystery" by Abigail Young for VegNews magazine. That article have caused an incredible anger in the Ching Hai followers community, since august last year. I looked for it because it was mentioned in the article "Know thy master" [www.newsreview.com] by Alia Cruz, listed on Rick Ross Institute. Curiously it was hard to find that article on the web, but you can get it by typing this exact expression in Google : "abigail-young-clips" then click on [PDF]Going,Going,Green (direct link here). It's about 8MB so I can't upload it, but there are only 5 pages and many pictures. You can also get it here on Scribd website, but you need to create an account.

Up to me that article is not extremely interesting in itself. It's written by a young (inexperienced?) journalist, any many followers (justly?) criticized the unprofessional quality of the article. Those who already know about Ching Hai's cult will not learn much more. What is interesting is the strong and coordinate reaction from followers, and also that the article causes a little "schism" in the vegetarian community, because it's fully assumed by VegNews, a magazine which Ching Hai's follower used to support before that. "Supreme Mystery", or how to "drop a cat among pigeons"... :)

If you search the title "Supreme Mystery" on Google, you will only get the Ching Hai community's reaction. The expression "Supreme Mystery Abigail Young" will give you many more results.

The less we can say is that followers took it very personaly.

You can have a look on the tribune (a wordpress blog) build up by some Ching Hai followers : [suprememystery.wordpress.com] I think it would be very interesting to make a speech analysis with all theses messages to bring out the reasoning mechanism of Ching Hai's followers. I posted an answer here once, which may have been moderated (or maybe a technical problem?). I tried again yesterday, and... "Your comment is awaiting moderation". Wait and see...

A very reactive "Dr." Will Tuttle (beware of the warning of unreliability by Wikipedia) found a lot of inspiration to write...
- an "Open Letter to VegNews publishers from Dr. Will Tuttle" (August 30 2010)
- an "Open Letter to the Vegan, Vegetarian, and Animal Liberation Communities" (October 2010)
- a "Critique of the VegNews article, “Supreme Mystery”" (October 2010)

They also made a petition : "Ask VegNews to Print new Loving Hut article by Will Tuttle!" where full of follower's comments can be found.

VegNews finally reacted by publishing readers letters from both sides (VegNews January-February 2011, page 16-17), without the appologize expected by Ching Hai's followers.

Many people also notice the disparition of the article "Supreme Mystery" from the website of VegNews, wondering if it was something about auto-censorship or what.
