For one thing, ISKCON is decentralized, and not very organized. How things work from temple to temple depends on the regional, zonal GBC leadership.

ISKCON is a controversial religious group with a very checkered past. In my opinion, it fits all of the necessary sociological criteria and so can be fairly described as a "cult."
