I got a book called "So What's the Difference?" by Fritz Ridenour.

Jesus Christ: the Great Divide

It is on the question of Jesus Christ-who was this man?-that the Jew and the Christian divide. They began to divide even while Jesus walked the earth. You remember that the Jews of that time were looking for a Messish (literally an "Anointed One") or Christ. He was spoken of by the OT prophets as one who would redeem His people from their sins. Yet Jesus claimed to be the Messish, the Son of God. One day at a well in Samaria, He spoke to a woman. He explained how she might satsfy her spiritual thirst. Even this sinful women knew that the Massiah was to come. Jesus replied that He was the one who had been promised. She believed and was saved (John 4:7-26). The NT contains many other references to Jesus as the Messiah or Christ (Matt 16:16; 26:63-65; Luke 24:26; John 8:28). The Christian belief in Jesus as the Messiah is based on His fulfillment of OT prophecies. He claimed to be the Messiah. The fact that He fulfilled prophecy proves His claim to be true.
1. When King Herod wanted to find and kill the Messish, he asked the Jewish priests and scribes where He was to be born. In Matt 2:3-6 they remembered the prophecy of Micah (Mic 5:1-3) that He would be born in Bethlehem.
2. The prophet Isaiah wrote that "the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel...and the government will be upon his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Isa 7:14; 9:6).
3. Matthew quotes from Isaiah (Matt 1:23) to show that the Word of God was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus. In Jesus, God was with us. He is the Son of God, the Prince of Peace. All these titles refer to the One who came from Heaven. He was sent by the Father to bring salvation to mankind! "He will save his people from their sins" (Matt 1:21).
4. Zechariah prophesied that the King would not come as a warlike conqueror, but rather humbly, riding on a donkey (Zech 9:9). On the day we now call Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem in Just that way. Why? "This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet" (Matt 21:4).

The "suffering servant" of Isa 53
Read Isa 53:3. How perfectly this describes Jesus, who came to redeem the world, but was rejected, especially by His own people. (John 1:1-12). The Messiah would bear punishment for mankind's transgressions. (Isa 53:4-6). Peter (1 Pet 2:24,25) remind us that Christ died for all mankind and that His suffering brings us salvation. Isaiah describes just how the Messiah will die. In the Gospels, we find Jesus fulfilling every detail of this prophecy. (Compare Isa 53:7-9 with Luke 23:32,33 and Matt 27:57-60). Read Ps 16:10. Acts 2:27-31, Luke 24:44, 46, 47, Rom 10:12.

What's the Difference?

God

Christians

One God is reveadled in the Scripture as Father, Son and Holy Spirit-the Trinity. Within the one "essence" of the Godhead ther are three persons who are co-equally and co-eternally God (Matt 3:13-17; 28:19; 2 Cor 13:14).

Orthodox Jews

"Hear. O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one"

Sin

Christians

Man fell in Adam and is born in sin (Rom 5:12; Ps 51:5). All men are condemned before God for their sin; proud, independent rebellion against God in active or passive form (Rom 1:18-23; 3:10,23).

Orthodox Jews

Man is not born in original sin nor is he born good. Man is born free, with the capacity to choose between good and evil. Each man is accountable for himself.

Salvation

Christians

Man is justified before God and obtains salvation through the atoning death of Christ on the cross. Salvation is a gift of God through faith (Rom 3:24; 1 Cor 15:3; Eph 2:8,9).

Orthodox Jews

Anyone, Jew or not, may gain salvation through commitment to the one God and moral living. Judaism looks to an afterlife, however, it does not stress preparing man for the next world as much as gulding his ethical and moral behavior in this present life.

Jesus Christ

Christians

Christ is the only begotten Son of God, the Messiah predicted in Is 53. He is God as well as men. He was sinless and died to redeem all men from sin (Mark 10:45; John 1:13,14; 8:46; 10:30; Heb 4:15; 1 Pet 2:24).

Orthodox Jews

While some Jews may accept Jesus as a good teacher of ethics, they do not accept Him as Messiah because (1) Jesus did not bring lasting peace (2) Jesus was declared to be divine and the Jewish idea of Messiah is a man sent from God to deliver Israel from oppression, not to save individuals from personal sin.
