Did Carlos Santana Require Employee to Change 'Evil Ways'?
Mike McKee The Recorder April 5, 2006

'A ruling in The New Santana Band v. Kuhlman, A111428, is due any day. The case was argued before the 1st District on March 23.'

This will an interesting case to monitor.

The discussion on the David Hawkins thread

brings to mind this pending lawsuit in relation to a spiritual rating system created by a 'Dr. Dan'

Dr Dan's system is different from Hawkin's work. However, the situation described below indicates potential liability issues for employers who hire consultants who rely unproven tests or ranking systems to assess employees' spiritual attainments.

An employee of Carlos Santana, Bruce Kuhlman, filed a wrongful termination lawsuit. Kuhlman had worked for Santana since 1988 and was let go because, allegedly, Dr.Dan's rating system indicated that Kuhlman lacked the potential to grow spiritually.

If enjoyed as parlor games, these systems are harmless entertainment.

But when people are hired and fired based on rating systems that have not been tested, developed and validated by statisticians, clinicians and persons trained in psychometrics, thats another matter.

In some worrisome cases, rating systems which purport to assess spirituality the systems are [b:62c20b5ab7]not [/b:62c20b5ab7]based on psychometric research by persons who have been trained and who remain accountable to the academic and scientific communities.

Some people (or employers) get quite enchanted with some of these rating devices. They fret over whether they are advanced enough, evolved enough and worry about where they (or others!) fit on So and So's rating scale.

This gives the person who created this rating scale a vast amount of power. And the developer can, at whim, create constant upgrades of his or her system, causing devotees to continue spending more money on the upgrades.

You're always wondering if you're in a state of grace--anyone who hints or says outright that you're at an inferior level on the system will have the power to work your nerves and control your self respect. This numbers game/rating game is also a great way to dismiss people who say things you dont like to hear--you can dismiss them as unevolved, or as having a low number or wrong color on a scale.

If you're let go from your job despite years of good performance and are told you didnt have the right scores on some kind of test, insist on finding out the name of that test, who developed it, and whether that test is considered a trustworthy instrument by psychometricians and industrial psychologists.

So apparently tolerance of others' beliefs is not part of Santana's credo?
