BLOCKBUSTER NEWS! Dzongsar Khyentse has been appointed to replace Sogyal, as head of Rigpa! Can we deduce from this, that Rigpa management liked his shockingly callous posts, making fun of the teacher abuse issue?

Here is an article from The Atlantic. What it describes about famous American writers matches the pattern of excuses made for abusive behavior by Vajrayana Buddhist teachers.

Compare David Foster Wallace with Chogyam Trungpa.

In both cases, there was and still is no shortage of loyalists who excuse the misdeeds of both men, claiming both were geniuses, not accountable to ordinary standards of behavior.

David Foster Wallace and the Dangerous Romance of Male Genius

A recent spate of #MeToo stories serves as yet another reminder of the centrifugal forces of talented men.

You make a good point. Why don't female geniuses get a free pass, outrageous-behavior-wise? I've never understood that whole idea; that genius for some reason merits a free pass, and shouldn't be expected to abide by moral and social norms. Doesn't that simply encourage boys to behave badly? Do we really want to foster a criminal class?
