Relatively few groups or persons have money and are willing to give it to you. Find out whether that money is clean money.

Exercise due diligence and fact check any group or church, project or person who wants to donate to your campaign or liaise with you in other ways.

Not everyone has liquid assets and is willing to contribute to a campaign; who are they. In a recession where money is scarce, be especially alert.
