Hello everyone. For a screenplay I'm writing about cult deprogramming, there is the issue of one character, a cult member, leaving the cult behind to seek help. This creates a minor plot hole that I hope someone here would be able to fill for me.

From what I can remember reading in a book a while back, cults typically don't file missing persons reports in the US due to the fact that this could shed legal spotlight on their operations, and possibly summons them to court. Can anyone verify this information for me, or correct it, and tell me what cults typically do when a members of theirs go missing? Thank you.
