WOW... Thank you allalong () :-) So happy to hear how you are listening and being gentle to your body rather than the "cult" approach :-)

More allegations about the world of yoga:

Quote

Swami Vishnu-Devananda was covertly sexually active, apparently with multiple young women devotees, up until 1987. There were several people who left the Sivananda organization deeply wounded, with substantial long lasting consequences to this day.

A p.t. has the proper education to teach how to avoid injury. I wish there were more yoga classes like there were years ago, where it was a gentle form of Hatha yoga where there was a lot of benefit without all the advanced poses and injuries.

Thanks Paul!! :-)
What kind of yoga do you do?
If you don't mind my asking, how do you keep things like yoga/spirituality simple? T

Oh thanks for asking :-) One way is to have my yoga mat in the floor by my bed. This way I get up and first thing start dong poses on my back while watching TV or listening to music. Then I keep stretching every chance I get throughout the day including in bed and while sleeping.

As far as the spiritual side, my realization is about "conscience" or "supersoul" and they call it in Yoga :-) I try to be mindful, and get help for my mental syndromes, many of which can be exacerbated by Yoga philosophies. When I do get a rush of mania due to some spiritual or other realization, I keep it in check. I stay grounded on the idea that I am a mammal and so most likely the result of my death will be the same as any mammal. If the yoga/vedic idea is correct, then almsto all of who we are now, dies anyway, so no need to put any effort into trying to effect what happens after death. That is also, in my opinion, a lack of faith in God to constantly try and hedge the bet.

Here is my FB page. Please feel free to friend me! Thanks :-)

That's a great idea. It definitely sounds like you're keeping things simple. I went to a gentle yoga class a few months ago taught by an older gentleman and it was the best yoga class I've had all year. I agree with a post I read on here that said that's what yoga is really meant to be. We don't have to do the more advanced poses to get the benefit from it.

This was helpful. I am also trying to be mindful, keep my depression/anxiety in check, and not get too obsessed with yoga or any other spiritual discipline. What do you do to stay grounded? I will need to work on raising my awareness when I do start up with yoga again to not get obsessive. I also do well if I take bits and pieces from things, versus following one thing to the letter, like a religion.

It was during my time in the Amritsar Central Jail that I thought of writing this book. As soon as I had Internet access, I began to research what it might take to create a written record of my experiences. In effect, this book was created as it happened and certainly before I knew how it would finish.

My hope was that I could help others to learn from my experiences; not only those in India, but also those within the 3HO spiritual organization to which I devoted thirty years of my life.
