What are you referring to, Mal? What web site is closed? Where do you see these dates? I do not understand, as I can view the NDN site that Apollo posted.

''love the sinner but hate the sin.''

It's become a very popular line which Dave and his followers often publicly preach, usually when they're taking justice into their own hands (public whippings, kangaroo courts etc). It seems David Berg was the inspiration behind that line. I think Dave has always looked towards David Berg as some kind of mentor.

On the opening page it says....

This website is now closed, and is presented as an archive. From December 17, 1999 until December 17, 2008 NewDayNews.com was one of the most visited websites for former members of "The Family International", aka "The Children of God". Frequent visits were logged from the following locations worldwide::

You can still view it but you can't post on it.

Oh yeah. Duuuh, don't I feel foolish!

His birthday, oh wow. Good catch, Mal. Now that's some irony for ya.

Why did New Day Ministries bring the web site to a close?

(A little "spooky" that they both opened and closed the site on McKay's birthday....Satan's humour?..... paying homage to one of his miserable servants?)

That is weird.

Maybe it was Dave who secretly ran the site. Who knows, it may have been part of a recruitment drive....

Oh look, the General Manager also happens to be called David! hmmmmmmmmmmm

Nah, it wasn't secretly run by Dave. It's all a coincidence I'll bet, seriously.

Here's one for Apollo. Donovan is Scottish, you know.

Tonight I've been doing some reading on the inspiration for and composition of this song, and it turns out that it's about Donovan's time with the Maharishi (with the Beatles, Mia Farrow, et al) in 1968. Inspired by a cult and a cult leader, like chunks of the White Album. Interesting.

Thrown like a star in my vast sleep
I open my eyes to take a peep
To find that I was by the sea
Gazing with tranquillity.
'Twas then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Came singing songs of love,
Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Came singing songs of love.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Histories of ages past
Unenlightened shadows cast
Down through all eternity
The crying of humanity.
'Tis then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Comes singing songs of love,
Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Comes singing songs of love.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Here comes the roly poly man and he's singing songs of love,
Roly poly, roly poly, roly poly, poly he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang,
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang

I've never heard of him. Here's something a bit more current from a good Scottish band....
