By the way all things Rudolph Steiner including Waldorf Schools are very big in Germany (where I live). In fact I know someone who used to teach at one for a short period. They more or less fired her because her clothes were too colorful. Hahaha.

One of their many many strange principles is that kids need to be surrounded by pastel colors to thrive.

Urban Dictionary: (one claim unverified.)

lots of flowy scarves of natural, pastel colors, swirls of light, veiling, and color, the soft sound of recorders filling the air, eurythmists dancing lightly on soft feet...
A True Waldorfian Is:
-afraid of artificial coloring/flavoring
-afraid of television or electricity, period
-never wears anything not natural or synthetic
-listens to calming music like that of the waves or flutes
- have a huge shrine dedicated to Rudolf Steiner

Schuonian Traditionalism/Maryamiyya

From Mark A Segwick: Against the Modern World, page 122

Schuon's preoccupation with ambience is visible even today in the houses of
Schuon's followers which are almost all beautifully decorated in a “traditional" style style that may in prayer room furnished with Koran and candle, and usually a dagger.18 Beauty was always an important means of access to God for Schuon and his followers.

In the footnote 18, Sedgwick writes this was based on personal observation on several occasions when he visited Schuonian devotee households.

Rudolf Steiner, founder of the Theosophy offshoot he termed Anthroposophy, created an entire ideology of aesthetics, which included architecture, interior decoration, even type font, all meant to draw vital forces down into human society and vivify the soil (Biodynamics)

On Mark Sedgwick's Traditionalists blog, information was published that Frithjof Schuon's father was influenced by Steinerism/Anthroposophy, which may account for Frithjof Schuon's great interest in what he and his follower termed 'ambiance' -- art, living quarters, etc.

Some cults with a drive to create total, wrap around environments may derive inspiration from other sources.

Steiner was driven to do exactly this. It takes a genius for detail to go to lengths of even designing type font meant to draw 'vital forces' down into a document, let alone specify what colors children should be allowed to use, and even specifying that beeswax crayons and water based paint (made and sold by Steinerian businesses ) are whats best for school art projects.
